EDINBORO, Pa. – Junior
Desiree Claxton set a new program record with 24 kills in only three sets of play, but East Stroudsburg University was unable to overcome PSAC Northwest-leading Edinboro in a tight 3-0 road defeat on Friday evening.
Claxton registered 24 of ESU's 36 kills in the match, and she did so with a .358 attack percentage which was her second-highest output of the season. The previous program high for kills in a three-set match under the current scoring format was 21 from Kaitlin Behrens in 2012. April Mellott also managed 24 kills back in 2002 when sets were played to 30 points rather than 25. Single match program records prior to 2002 are not available.
Set scores tonight were 25-23, 27-25, 25-20, as the Warriors (11-17, 3-11 PSAC) stayed competitive throughout with an Edinboro team which has won 20 of its past 22 matches.
Challen Litwiler led the Fighting Scots (20-6, 12-2 PSAC) with 10 kills and 11 digs, while Victoria Severo and Latoya Hutchinson had nine kills apiece. Edinboro remained in a tie with Gannon (23-3, 12-2 PSAC) for first place in the PSAC Northwest division.
Claxton's previous high for kills in a three-set contest was an 18-kill effort against Millersville on Oct. 3, 2014 during her freshman season. The Stafford, Va., native has 10+ kills in nine of ESU's last 13 matches overall.

Tina Predojevic and junior
Rosa Veliky totaled 10 digs for the Warriors. Veliky leads the team with 296 digs for the season, followed closely by Predojevic with 290. The two have combined to reach double figures in that category 27 times on the year.
Freshman
Jasmine Williams added five blocks (1 BS, 4 BA) for the visitors.
The Warriors finished the evening with advantages in aces (5-3), blocks (6-5) and digs (43-40).
ESU remains on the road on Saturday afternoon, traveling to Slippery Rock for a matchup set to begin at 1 p.m.
