SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Junior
Samantha Young finished 23rd out of 144 runners in the women's 6k race, securing All-Region accolades as East Stroudsburg University competed at the NCAA Atlantic Regional at Slippery Rock on Saturday morning.
Fellow junior
Kaylyn West followed closely behind in 27th for the ESU women, who placed seventh in the team standings. Seniors
Alec Lederer (28th) and
Alex Zubko (30th) just missed out on All-Region honors for the men, who finished sixth overall in the 10k competition. The top 25 runners in each race received All-Region recognition.
With Young's performance, the Warrior women have now had at least one runner place in the top 25 in the region in each of the past seven seasons. She crossed the line in 23:55, while West came in at 24:00.
ESU totaled 228 points as a team, beating out Wheeling Jesuit by 17 points for seventh place. Senior
Lauren Toth, competing at her first regional meet, was the third scorer for the Warriors after finishing 48th with a time of 24:45.
Junior
Jasmine Amro (25:09 – 62nd) and freshman
Rachel Eidson (25:28 – 72nd) also scored for ESU. Eidson placed in the top five in each of the last five races she competed in during her debut collegiate season.
Lederer (34:20.7) was 10 seconds out of an All-Region spot. The Walnutport, Pa., native, who was 21st in the region as a junior, led the Warrior men in five out of the six races he competed in this fall.
Only 58 seconds separated ESU's five scorers, as the Warriors moved up one spot from last year's seventh place result. The sixth-place finish is the highest since the 2012 team finished tied for second and qualified for the NCAA Championships.
Zubko completed the course in 34:27.2. Junior
Jeremy Rapposelli (35:00.3) and senior
Jeremy Rigotti (35:04.9) finished four seconds apart in 39th and 41st, respectively, while senior
Taylor Piekos (35:18.9) cracked the top 50 in 49th place.
Zubko and Rapposelli placed in the top three in every meet they competed at this season, while Rigotti scored in each of his final three races.
Shippensburg took first place in both the men's and women's races after also sweeping the PSAC races two weeks ago. Lock Haven junior Addison Monroe (32:23.6) was the men's individual champion, and Shippensburg senior Casey Norton (22:21) topped the women's field.
