EWING, N.J. – Junior
Allison Cardow established a new school record in the 200-yard butterfly, and East Stroudsburg University took first place in seven events at the three-day TCNJ Invitational which concluded on Sunday afternoon.
The Warriors approached school records in five other races, with freshmen
Olivia Lukshides and
Tarah Killane posting the second-quickest times in program history in a pair of events each, and ESU registered 18 new PSAC-qualifying times over the weekend.
Cardow completed the 200 fly in 2:11.66, over a second under the previous school record of 2:12.76 set by Allison Schafer in 2013. That mark placed her second in Sunday's final, one spot ahead of senior
Kaitlyn Casciole, whose time of 2:18.29 was the eighth-quickest in program history. Earlier in the meet, Cardow also recorded a PSAC qualifying time in the 200 backstroke (2:13.43).
Casciole was one of three new Warriors to post a PSAC time at the meet, doing so in the 200 fly, the 100 fly (1:01.62) and the 100 back (1:01.69 – No. 7 in program history). Other new qualifiers were senior
Jennifer Lauer in the 400 individual medley (4:53.48) and the 1,650 freestyle (18:59.57) and freshman
Dani Zimmerman in the 50 free (25.79) and 100 free (55.87). Lauer's 1,650 free time was sixth all-time in school history.
Junior
Annie Fagan swam the fastest 50 free time for ESU since the program was reinstated in 1995, topping 44 other swimmers in the preliminary round after touching in at 24.44. That is only 0.31 behind the standard set by ESU Hall of Famer Karen Linck in 1978. Fagan then earned 20 points for the Warriors with a first place finish in the final, completing the race in 24.66.
ESU earned 896 points overall on the weekend, placing the team second out of seven competing schools.
Lukshides posted No. 2 all-time marks in the 100 and 200 free races, taking first place in both events. She finished the 100 free in 53.37, 0.19 away from Karoline Vavra's school record set in 2012-13, and the 200 free in 1:56.41, under a second behind
Ashleigh Podhayny's record of 1:55.89 from last season.
Fagan, meanwhile, was runner-up to Lukshides in the 100 free, touching in at 54.23 for the sixth-fastest time in program history.
Killane entered the record books in all three of her individual events, including the No. 2 times in the 500 and 1,650 free races. She took over 13 seconds off her previous best in the 500 free, winning the race with a time of 5:12.19, and was over 30 seconds under her previous PR in the 1,650 free with a third-place showing of 17:57.33. Killane also moved up to No. 8 all-time in the 200 free after placing third in this weekend's final (1:59.51).
