EAST STROUDSBURG – Senior forward Allison Howard registered her 15th career double-double with 21 points and 10 rebounds, and East Stroudsburg University closed out the second quarter on a 16-0 run to pull away for a 75-54 victory over New Haven at Koehler Fieldhouse on Wednesday evening.

Junior center Rebecca Rutkowski (14 points) and sophomore guard Noelle Powell (10 points) also reached double figures for the Warriors (6-2), who improved to 4-0 at home this season. Alexandria Kerr led the Chargers (1-7) with 19 points and 18 rebounds.

ESU, which entered tonight shooting 75.4 percent from the free throw line to lead the PSAC, earned 11 trips to the charity stripe in the opening quarter. The Warriors converted on 10 of those attempts, with Howard going 5-for-6, to help the home side take a 23-18 advantage into the second.

Khayla Trowell hit a jump shot with 7:06 remaining before the intermission to pull New Haven within one point at 25-24, but those would turn out to be the final two points of the half for the visitors. Senior guard Madison Tamburini sank a jumper on the next ESU possession to begin a stretch of 16 unanswered for the Warriors. ESU's defense forced four turnovers in the final seven minutes, and the Chargers missed 14-consecutive field goal attempts.

Howard, who was honored prior to the game for scoring her 1,000th point at Philadelphia U. on Nov. 22, had eight of the Warriors' 16 points during the run. Tonight's effort moved her past Rose Mohl (1981-85) for 12th on ESU's all-time scoring list. Howard now has 1,069 points for her career.

The Warriors scored 12 of the first 18 points in the third quarter to extend their advantage up to 53-30 with 6:23 remaining, and the lead was 59-38 heading into the final 10 minutes.

ESU led by as many as 25 points in the fourth after the first of two 3-pointers by freshman guard Sadie Cresswell made it 70-45 with 3:36 left.

Rutkowski made 6-of-10 field goal attempts to reach double figures for a fourth time this season. Powell, meanwhile, hit four field goals, including a pair from long distance, to reach the 10-point plateau for a seventh time in eight contests this season. She also grabbed a season-high seven rebounds, ranking second to Howard in that category.

With her 15th career double-double tonight, Howard is now tied with Jackie Yandrisevits (2005-09) for the second-most by a Warrior player since the 2002-03 season (Jessica Martin had 27 during her four-year career from 2011-15). The Aurora, Ohio, native also had three of ESU's four blocks on the night.

The Chargers dropped their fourth consecutive game overall. Kerr's 19 points came on 9-of-27 shooting from the field. Of her 18 rebounds, 12 came on the offensive end.

The Warriors return to PSAC competition this weekend, traveling to Gannon on Saturday for a matchup scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
