STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – Freshman Akeim Thomas ran 8.13 in the 60m hurdles, an NCAA Division II provisional qualifying time and an East Stroudsburg University freshman record, to lead the Warriors at the Fast Track National Invitational on Friday afternoon.

Thomas' time, the second-fastest in school history, joins junior Steven Morgan (8.14 last week at the Armory) as Warriors with NCAA provisional qualifiers in the 60m hurdles this season. He broke ESU's freshman record of 8.26 set by Cory Young in 2010.

ESU's squad compiled five new and four improved PSAC qualifiers in the penultimate meet before the PSAC Championships, which will be contested February 27-March 1 at Edinboro.

The Warriors' women had three new and one improved PSAC qualifiers, while two tied their PSAC marks.

New PSAC qualifiers were recorded by freshman Leiana Dean in the 400m (59.71), junior Lauren Toth in the 800m (2:19.60) and senior Chelsea Conover in the mile (5:08.45). All three times rank in the top 10 in school history.

Junior Allison Decker improved her PSAC qualifier in the 5000m and nearly hit the NCAA DII provisional qualifier, running 17:29.29 – third-fastest in school history.

Freshman Victoria Matthews tied her PSAC qualifier in the high jump (5-3), and junior Brandie Tartza tied her PSAC mark in the pole vault (10-4).

The DMR of sophomore Kaylyn West, sophomore Hope Decker, freshman Victoria Matthews and sophomore Samantha Young rank 12:39.88 – seventh on ESU's all-time list.

On the men's side, Thomas was one of five Warriors to compete in the 60m hurdles. He ran 8.21 in the prelims, already a PR, before clocking 8.13 in the final to finish fifth in a field of 34.

Junior Steven Morgan ran 8.32 after recording 8.14 last week, an NCAA provisional time.

Two ESU men had new PSAC qualifiers – sophomore Montel Johnson-Troupe in the 200m (22.85) and sophomore Sean Halligan in the 800m (1:57.95).

Improved PSAC qualifying marks were turned in by freshman Patrick Monahan in the 60m (7.09), junior Robert Garvey in the 400m (22.85), Thomas in the 60m hurdles and Morgan in the long jump. Monahan and Garvey's times both rank in ESU's top 10.

The 4x400m relay of sophomore Juwaan Walker, Garvey, Thomas and senior Derrick Washington ran 3:18.48, sixth-fastest in school history.

Senior William Berry, tied for 2nd on the DII list in the high jump (7-0 1/2), cleared 6-6 1/4.
