Howard Leads Hot-Shooting ESU Women’s Basketball to 89-57 Win at Mansfield

EAST STROUDSBURG - Junior forward Allison Howard scored 21 points and senior guard Melissa Poderis and sophomore guard Imani Brown scored 14 each, leading East Stroudsburg University to an 89-57 win at Mansfield in PSAC East women's basketball on Wednesday night at Decker Gymnasium.

ESU (12-12, 10-10), which secured a PSAC Tournament spot with Kutztown's loss at Cheyney on Tuesday night, shot 57.9 percent from the field (33-for-57), one of their best marks in the last decade.

Poderis scored all 14 points in the first half, tying a career-high, as the Warriors led 45-35 at the break.

Jessica Crawley scored 12 points to lead Mansfield (6-17, 3-16).

Howard surpassed the 900-point mark for her career (903) and had her second straight game with 20+ points, her fourth of the season and the eighth of her career. She had 25 points, tying her career-high, in a 77-75 loss at Kutztown on Saturday and has scored 65 points in the last three games.

Sophomore forward Rebecca Rutkowski had 12 points, six rebounds and five blocked shots, entering as the PSAC leader in blocks (2.1 per game). Senior center Michelle Boggs added nine points for the Warriors.

Howard was 7-for-10, Poderis 4-for-6, Rutkowski 6-for-8 and Boggs 4-for-6 to lead the Warriors from the field. ESU shot 28-for-40 on two-point shots and was 5-for-17 from the three-point line.

ESU hosts Lock Haven on Saturday and travels to Millersville next Wednesday in its final two games of the regular season.

The Warriors secured a PSAC Tournament bid for the fourth straight season and remain in contention for a home playoff game in the first round (Saturday, Feb. 27), when the No. 3 seed hosts the No. 6 seed, and the No. 4 seed hosts the No. 5 seed.
