YORK - Senior Ashleigh Podhayny placed ninth in the 200 IM and senior Cyndi Kline was 14th in the 1000 free, leading East Stroudsburg University on the first day of the 2016 PSAC Swimming Championships on Thursday at the York YMCA.

Podhayny placed ninth in a season-best of 2:08.54, just off her school record of 2:08.38 set last year.

She was 10th in the prelims at 2:10.35 after entering as the No. 6 seed (2:09.56). She was 10th in the 200 IM last season.

Podhayny is the No. 4 seed in the 400 IM (4:37.35), which will be contested Friday, and finished seventh last year after reaching the championship final.

Kline swam 10:54.10 in the 1000 free on Thursday morning, the second-fastest time in school history. She swam a PR of more than eight seconds and a season best of 23 seconds to score in an individual event at the PSAC's for the first time in her career.

Two Warriors finished 17th in the prelims of their events Thursday morning, just missing the consolation final - sophomore Annie Fagan in the 50 free (24.75) and sophomore Kate Zimmerman in the 200 IM (2:12.23). Fagan's 50 free time is ESU's fourth-best since the program was reestablished in 1995.

ESU placed eighth in the 200 medley relay in the evening session with Podhayny, Zimmerman, sophomore Allison Cardow and Fagan swimming 1:49.03 - 0.51 off the school record set in 2013.

On Friday, Podhayny is the No. 4 seed and Zimmerman is the No. 10 seed in the 400 IM. The 100 fly, 200 free (Podhayny is No. 12 seed), 200 free relay and 400 medley relay will also be contested.

The PSAC Championships continue through Sunday.
