KUTZTOWN - Junior Steven Morgan tied his personal best in the 55m hurdles and freshman Akeim Thomas hit a PSAC qualifying time in the 55m dash to lead East Stroudsburg University at the Kutztown Last Chance Qualifier on Saturday.

Morgan ran a time of 7.59 seconds, matching his 55m hurdles PR, and has an NCAA Division II provisional qualifying time of 8.14 seconds in the 60m hurdles. His 55H time is second in school history, and his 60H time ranks third.

Thomas, also an NCAA DII provisional qualifier in the 60m hurdles (8.13), was one of four Warriors to record new PSAC qualifying times with his sprint of 6.60 seconds in the 55m dash.

The PSAC Championships will be held next weekend (Saturday-Sunday) at Edinboro. ESU's men have 23 athletes with 32 PSAC qualifying marks, and the women have 19 athletes with 28 PSAC qualifying marks.

Other new PSAC qualifiers came from freshman Quincy Palmer in the 200m (22.23), freshman Nate Sharrah in the pole vault (13-7 1/4), sophomore Danielle Swingle in the 400m (1:01.00) and junior Brandie Tartza in the 55m hurdles (8.77). Tartza's time ranks seventh in school history.

Senior Samantha Mason improved her PSAC mark in the long jump to 17-3 1/4, 10th-best at ESU.

Freshman Patrick Monahan ran a season best in the 55m (6.62) to improve his PSAC qualifying time.

Graduate student Travis Toth had a mark of 61-9 1/2 to win the weight throw. Toth entered the week with an NCAA DII provisional mark of 62-11 1/4, 10th on the national list.

Toth is one of four Warriors with NCAA provisionals entering the PSAC Championships, along with Thomas and Morgan in the 60m hurdles and senior William Berry in the high jump (7-0 1/2), which ranks t-2nd nationally. Berry cleared 6-4 3/4 at Kutztown on Saturday.

ESU athletes won five individual events - Thomas in the 55m dash, sophomore Sean Halligan in the mile (4:34.12), Morgan in the 55m hurdles, Toth in the weight throw and senior Michelle Zazzero in the 3000m. Both 4x400m relays also had winning times.

In the women's high jump, freshman Victoria Matthews cleared 5-2 1/2 and has a PSAC qualifier of 5-3 which ranked seventh in the conference last week.

Selected ESU athletes competed on Saturday with the PSAC Championships on deck for next weekend.

The men's top-ranked Warriors entering the week were Thomas in the 60m hurdles (#1 - 8.13), Berry in the high jump (#1 - 7-0 1/2), Toth in the weight throw (#1 - 62-11 1/4), Morgan in the 60m hurdles (#2 - 8.14) and junior Sean Hagerty in the long jump (#3 - 22-9).

ESU's top-ranked women were freshman Marissa Flim in the 60m (#4 - 7.86) and junior Allison Decker in the 500m (#5 - 17:29.29).
