ESU Secures PSAC Tournament 1st Round Home Game with 64-57 Win at Millersville

MILLERSVILLE - Sophomore guard Imani Brown scored 15 points and senior guard Tyeca Reviere and sophomore forward Rebecca Rutkowski had 12 each as East Stroudsburg University rallied for a 64-57 win at Millersville and secured a first-round home game in the PSAC Tournament on Wednesday night at Pucillo Gymnasium.

ESU (14-12, 12-10) trailed 16-3 early in the game and by eight points in the third quarter before finishing the game on a 28-13 run and ending Millersville's (18-8, 14-8) eight-game winning streak to enter the postseason.

The Warriors have won 13 of their last 18 and will be the PSAC East's No. 4 seed, earning a first-round home game vs. No. 5 Bloomsburg on Saturday at 1 p.m. as part of a PSAC Tournament doubleheader at Koehler Fieldhouse.

Brown had 15 points and six rebounds, Reviere had 12 points, five rebounds, six assists and two steals and Rutkowski had 12 points (all in the second half) and six boards to lead the Warriors.

Yasmin Cooper scored 17 points and Celeste Robinson posted 12 points and nine rebounds to lead Millersville, which will be the tournament's No. 3 seed. West Chester and Shippensburg will be the top two seeds.

The Warriors held Millersville to 5-for-21 (3-for-10 at the foul line) with three turnovers in the final 12:57 after the Marauders led 44-36 late in the third quarter.

Millersville led 16-3 seven minutes into the contest and 18-6 at the end of the first quarter. The Warriors cut into the deficit with a 17-5 stretch in the second quarter to tie the game at 23-all, capping a 10-0 run which included seven points by Brown.

Millersville led 30-26 at halftime, ESU cut it to two points (36-34) and the Marauders stretched their lead to 44-36, their largest of the second half.

It was 46-43 entering the fourth quarter, but ESU made three of its six three-pointers in the next five minutes. Junior forward Allison Howard (9 points, 5 rebounds) tied it in the first minute of the fourth quarter, and the Warriors took their first lead of the game (49-48) on a three-pointer by Brown with 7:53 remaining.

Following a pair of Millersville baskets, junior forward Madison Tamburini hit a three-pointer for her only points of the game to tie it at 52-all with 6:34 remaining.

Reviere scored the next time down, Rutkowski hit a 10-foot jumper and Reviere buried an 18-foot jumper to complete a 9-0 run and give the Warriors a 58-52 lead.

Millersville went almost five minutes without scoring until Robinson cut the MU deficit to 58-54 with 1:52 remaining.

Brown had a key basket for the Warriors at the 1:23 mark, and ESU was 4-for-6 at the foul line in the final minute to stay in front.

Senior center Michelle Boggs had seven points, four rebounds and two blocks, junior guard Rachel Falkowski had three points, three rebounds, two assists and four steals and senior guard Melissa Poderis added three points, two rebounds and two assists for ESU.

The Warriors secured their second winning season in the last nine years with Wednesday night's win.

Bloomsburg (13-13, 10-12) ended its regular season with a 60-42 loss at Shippensburg. The Huskies have dropped four straight and seven of their last eight, beginning with a 71-66 loss at ESU on January 30. Bloomsburg won 73-52 vs. the Warriors on their home floor on December 1.

ESU is in the PSAC Tournament for the fourth straight year and will look to advance to the quarterfinals for the second time in three seasons.

The Warriors are in their first season under head coach Diane Decker, previously an assistant coach at Bloomsburg the last seven seasons. Decker was ESU's acting head coach in 2007-08, when the Warriors played in the PSAC quarterfinals.
