The Warriors opened their trip with two wins at Virginia State (19-10, 10-5) on Friday and won both of their games Saturday in Salem, 12-2 (6 inn.) vs. Ursuline and 5-2 vs. Clarion.
Senior catcher
Haley Thomas hit .550 (11-for-20) with two doubles, two home runs, seven RBI and six runs to lead the offense. Sophomore OF
Katherine Liedberg hit .462 (6-for-13, double, HR, 5 RBI, 5 runs) while playing the first four games, and Visco hit .450 (9-for-20, double, 2 HR, 8 RBI, 7 runs) in six games.
Junior
Rae Holden hit three home runs vs. Ursuline on Saturday, ESU's most in a single game since at least 2003.
In the circle, Mende (0.78 ERA in 9.0 innings) and Carlin (1.79 ERA in 15.2 innings) were the Warriors' leaders.
ESU hosts Bowie State in its home opener Wednesday with a 2 p.m. doubleheader at Zimbar Field.
GAME 1 - L 3-0 vs. Davis & ElkinsThe Senators (12-3) struck on a two-run homer by Danielle Norton in the first inning and a sacrifice fly by Norton in the third to account for their three runs.
Carlin (5.2 IP, 1 unearned run, 6 hits) nearly went the distance in relief after Liguori pitched to the first four batters.
ESU had three hits off D&E's Allie Lapallo, getting a double from Holden and singles by Thomas and Visco.
The Warriors had a couple of chances but left two runners on base in the second, and stranded a runner after a leadoff double by Holden in the fourth.
GAME 2 - W 4-2 vs. Lake ErieDungee hit a two-run homer in the first inning after a single by Coppola to get the Warriors on the board, and Visco hit a solo homer to lead off the second inning for a 3-0 advantage.
Lake Erie plated one run in the second and threatened for more, but Mende got out of a bases loaded, one-out jam without any further damage.
The Warriors made it 4-1 in the fifth as freshman OF
Kellianne Gaffney singled, advanced on a sacrifice bunt by sophomore SS
Mary Wallick, stole third and scored on a bunt single by Coppola.
Carlin blanked Lake Erie in the fourth and fifth innings, pitching around a leadoff walk in the fourth and two errors in the fifth to maintain the lead.
Liguori threw a 1-2-3 sixth, and Lake Erie managed one run after two singles to start the seventh but didn't get any closer.
ESU had six hits, including two each by Coppola and Visco.
