Nunes Leads ESU Lacrosse Past Slippery Rock, 18-10

EAST STROUDSBURG - Senior attack Lauren Nunes had five goals and four assists to tie a career-high with nine points, leading East Stroudsburg University to an 18-10 win vs. Slippery Rock in PSAC lacrosse on Saturday afternoon at Whitenight Field.

Sophomore midfielder Chessie Rahmer had two goals and three assists, all in the first half, and senior attack Kaitlynn Wiltraut had three goals and one assist for the Warriors (6-1, 2-1).

ESU led 11-5 at halftime, closing on a 10-2 run after falling behind 3-1 early, and maintained at least a five goal lead throughout the second half.

Nunes had her second career game with nine points and hit several career milestones. She moved into 10th at ESU in career goals (119), fifth in career points (195) and closed within two assists of the school record. Nunes has 76 career assists, trailing only Antonia Giannopoulos, who had 78 from 2001-03.

Nunes scored four goals in a 6-0 run over a seven-minute stretch late in the first half as the Warriors broke the game open.

Sophomore midfielder Alicia Stratten and freshman midfielder Taylor Jefferis both scored two goals, junior midfielder Emily Fitzsimmons had a goal and an assist and senior midfielder Annastasia Porpora, junior attack Lauren Green and freshman attack Brooke Fritz also scored for ESU.

Ally Culhane, Erin Wilcox and Danni Wilson scored two goals each for Slippery Rock (3-2, 1-1).

Redshirt junior goalkeeper Jessica Maxwell had 12 saves for ESU as the Warriors were outshot 27-25 and committed two more turnovers than SRU.

Eighteen of ESU's 25 shots found the net, with two SRU goalkeepers combining to make just four saves.

ESU had a 16-14 edge in draw controls, including five each by Rahmer and senior defender Caitlyn O'Connell.

The Warriors host Wilmington in a non-conference game on Tuesday at 3 p.m.
