Nunes Leads ESU Lacrosse to 14-10 Win at Gannon

ERIE – Senior attack Lauren  Nunes had four goals and four assists as East Stroudsburg University rallied from a five-goal deficit for a 14-10 win at Gannon in PSAC lacrosse on Saturday.

ESU (8-1, 3-1) trailed 7-2 with 12:05 left in the first half, then scored eight straight goals – the final four of the first half and first four of the second half – to take a 10-7 lead with 23 minutes remaining.

Nunes set ESU's career assist record in a 22-4 win vs. Wilmington on Tuesday and entered the weekend ranked fourth in Division II (1st in PSAC) with 6.13 points per game and third in DII (2nd in PSAC) with 3.88 assists per game.

Senior attack Kaitlynn Wiltraut, senior midfielder Annastasia Porpora and redshirt junior midfielder Jamie Zimmer scored two goals each for ESU and junior midfielder Emily Fitzsimmons had a goal and an assist. Sophomore midfielders Chessie Rahmer and Alicia Stratten and freshman midfielder Taylor Jefferis also scored for the Warriors.

Becky Hilker had three goals and two assists, Leilani King had three goals and an assist and Kierstyn Haight had two goals and an assist for Gannon (4-5, 1-3).

Redshirt junior goalkeeper Jessica Maxwell had nine saves for ESU, and Kat Martinelli made five saves for Gannon.

Porpora, Nunes, Stratten (from Nunes) and Wiltraut (from Nunes) scored in the final 12 minutes of the first half to get the Warriors with 7-6 at intermission.

Nunes scored twice, Rahmer found the net and Jefferis scored with 23:14 left in the second half to put ESU in front, 10-7.

Zimmer scored twice within 37 seconds for a 12-8 lead with 18:11 remaining. After two Gannon goals made it 12-10 at the 14:39 mark, ESU stretched its lead to 14-10 on a goal by Wiltraut (assisted by Fitzsimmons) with 8:03 left and Fitzsimmons scored, assisted by junior attack Lauren Green, with 5:14 left.
