EAST STROUDSBURG - Senior attack Lauren Nunes had five goals and two assists, senior attack Kaitlynn Wiltraut added three goals and East Stroudsburg University upended No. 6-ranked Lock Haven, 8-7, in PSAC lacrosse on Tuesday afternoon at Whitenight Field.

ESU (9-1, 4-1) posted its first win vs. Lock Haven (8-1, 4-1) since 2001, outscoring LHU 6-4 in the second half.

Redshirt junior goalkeeper Jessica Maxwell made six saves and ESU managed a 17-16 advantage in shots despite a 9-8 deficit in draw controls.

The Warriors kept LHU off the scoreboard for the final 6:14 after a goal by Hayley Killian pulled the Bald Eagles within 8-7. Sophomore midfielder Chessie Rahmer won the ensuing draw control and ESU maintained almost all of the possession down the stretch, aided by two caused turnovers (by Nunes and junior defender Kerry Mulcahy) that allowed the Warriors to run out the clock.

LHU led 3-2 at intermission after a low-scoring first half. Nunes opened the scoring on an assist from junior attack Lauren Green 3:36 into the game, LHU's Rachel Engler scored 28 seconds later and Wiltraut put ESU ahead 2-1 (assisted by Nunes) to complete an early flurry.

LHU tied it on a goal by Ashley Gochenaur at the 17:47 mark of the first half and took its first lead on a free position goal by Dana Laulis at 7:03.

Nunes tied it at 3-3 for ESU early in the second half. Alex O'Herrick put LHU back in front 14 seconds later before Wiltraut scored unassisted to make it 4-4 with 26:38 left.

Wiltraut's goal started a 3-0 run for the Warriors, as Nunes converted a free position at 23:56 to give ESU the lead, and Wiltraut (from Nunes) extended the lead to 6-4 with 18:09 left.

LHU tied it with two goals in a 30-second stretch, by Gochenaur and Engler, to make it 6-6 with 15:20 remaining.

Nunes broke the tie with 13:24 left and added to the margin with 8:01 remaining with what proved to be the decisive goal.

ESU's defense forced 19 Lock Haven turnovers, including 11 caused turnovers. Junior defender Bethany Cunningham had a team-high four caused turnovers, and senior defender Caitlyn O'Connell led the Warriors with four ground balls.

Hannah Houde made seven saves in goal for Lock Haven.

Nunes tied ESU's single-season assist record (37) and entered the game ranked 3rd in DII (1st in PSAC) with 6.33 points per game and 4th in DII (2nd in PSAC) with 3.89 assists per game. She has 64 points on 27 goals and 37 assists this season.

She has scored or assisted on 34 of ESU's 62 goals in the last four games, all victories.
