ESU Softball Falls at No. 15 West Chester

WEST CHESTER - No. 15-ranked West Chester outlasted East Stroudsburg University for a 6-3 win in game one and won 9-1 (5 inn.) in the nightcap for two PSAC East softball wins vs. the Warriors on Thursday afternoon.

Brooke Harner (4.1 IP, 1 earned run) and Amanda Houck (2.2 IP) combined in the circle for West Chester (29-3, 4-0) in the opener. Houck threw a complete game in game two.

Sophomore 2B Heather Visco led ESU offensively, going 3-for-6 with two RBI, including a solo homer in the first inning of the opener. Sophomore OF Katherine Liedberg added two hits and two runs.

ESU (11-11, 0-6) hosts Shippensburg in a PSAC East doubleheader on Saturday at 1 p.m. at Zimbar Field.

GAME 1

Visco homered with one out in the top of the first inning, but West Chester tied it with an unearned run in the bottom half and went ahead on a three-run homer by Cat Hammer in the third.

WCU extended its lead to 5-1 on a homer by Sarah Walasavage in the fourth.

ESU scored twice in the fifth on two hits and two errors but left the bases loaded. Liedberg and freshman 3B Samantha Pickar both had singles in the frame.

The Golden Rams made it 6-3 in the sixth with a sacrifice fly.

Visco was 2-for-4 and sophomore SS Mary Wallick (double), Liedberg and Pickar all had hits.

Junior Rachael Liguori started for ESU and allowed four runs (three earned) in 3.0 innings before being relieved by senior Amanda Carlin (3.0 IP, 2 runs).

Harner went 4.1 innings for West Chester, allowing three runs (one earned) with Houck picking up the save.

GAME 2

West Chester scored one run in the third, two in the fourth and five in the fifth after ESU made it 1-1 in the top of the third inning.

Houck threw a complete game for WCU, allowing one run on four hits. Three Golden Rams had multiple hits, including Sara Ercolani, who homered in the first.

Sophomore OF Katherine Liedberg singled, advanced on a wild pitch and a sacrifice bunt by Pickar, and scored on an RBI single by Wallick in the third.
