ESU Softball Splits at Millersville (W 5-4, L 10-2 5 inn.)

MILLERSVILLE - Sophomore shortstop Mary Wallick had a pair of RBI triples to lead East Stroudsburg University to a 5-4 win in the opener as the Warriors split a PSAC East softball doubleheader at Millersville on Sunday.

Millersville (19-13, 6-4) won the nightcap, 10-2 (5 inn.) behind a pair of three-run homers and solid pitching by Cassidy Pinchorski (5.0 IP, 2 runs, 1 earned).

Wallick was 2-for-3 with a walk, two triples, two RBI and two runs and sophomore 2B Heather Visco was 2-for-4 with a triple and two RBI for the Warriors in the opener.

Junior left-hander Rachael Liguori threw a complete game, getting two outs with the bases loaded to end it after Millersville scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh.

ESU (14-14, 1-9) has three divisional doubleheaders remaining, including two next weekend - Friday vs. West Chester and Saturday at Kutztown.

GAME 1 - W 5-4

After Millersville scored one run in the bottom of the second, ESU took a 2-1 lead in the top of the third as sophomore OF Katherine Liedberg and Wallick drew walks and Visco clubbed a two-out, two-RBI triple.

The Warriors made it 4-1 in the top of the fifth as Liedberg walked, Wallick had an RBI triple and scored on an error on the play.

Millersville answered with one run in the bottom half, which ESU got back in the top of the seventh on a two-out double by freshman 3B Mary Pickar and another RBI triple by Wallick.

The insurance run proved critical as Millersville scored two in the bottom of the seventh - on a double, single, walk, single and walk - before Liguori struck out Megan McCurdy and got Raeann Buskey to ground out with the bases loaded and the tying run on third.

Liguori improved to 8-7 with her ninth complete game of the season (4 runs, 9 hits, 4 strikeouts, 3 walks) before taking the loss in game two.

Brianna Andraos went the distance for Millersville, allowing five runs (four earned) on five hits with five strikeouts and four walks.

GAME 2 - L 10-2

Brittany Smith and Maria Spinosa hit three-run homers in the bottom of the first, and Millersville sealed it with four runs in the bottom of the third.

ESU scored in the first as Wallick reached third with a leadoff double and an error on the right fielder, and scored when Visco reached on an error by the second baseman.

The Warriors added a run in the third on a leadoff double by Pickar and a two-out RBI single by senior catcher Haley Thomas.
