EAST STROUDSBURG - Senior
Allison Mende threw a complete game and sophomore OF
Katherine Liedberg had three RBI as East Stroudsburg University won the nightcap, 4-3, to split a non-conference softball doubleheader with Bloomfield on Wednesday afternoon at Zimbar Field.
ESU (15-15) dropped the opener, 9-3, before rallying from a 3-1 deficit midway through the second game to earn the split.
Mende scattered nine hits, struck out two and walked one in her first complete game of the season and the 13th of her career. She improved her career record to 20-18 in 69 appearances, including 33 starts.
Liedberg was 2-for-3 and had a two-RBI single in the fourth and the go-ahead RBI single in the sixth.
Bloomfield (15-18) used a 13-hit offense to win the opener, scoring four runs in the first inning, including a three-run homer by Lauren Bueno.
ESU returns to PSAC action this weekend, hosting No. 12 West Chester (36-3, 8-0) on Friday and traveling to Kutztown on Saturday.
GAME 1
Bloomfield led 6-0 through two innings, with ESU scoring two runs in the third, Bloomfield answering with three in the sixth and the Warriors plating their final run in the seventh.
Sophomore SS
Mary Wallick was 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run in the leadoff spot and sophomore 2B
Heather Visco was 1-for-4 with an RBI double.
Senior catcher
Haley Thomas was 2-for-3 with an RBI. Thomas entered the week ranked fifth in the PSAC in batting (.434), eighth in on-base percentage (.462) and sixth in slugging percentage (.699).
Gabby Citriniti started and went 3.0 innings (2 runs, 1 earned) for Bloomfield, with Kirsten Wilson (4.0 IP, 1 run, 10 strikeouts, 3 walks) earning the win in relief.
GAME 2
Bloomfield led 3-1 through 3.5 innings, but the Warriors tied it in the bottom of the fourth before scoring the go-ahead run in the sixth.
ESU cut its deficit to 2-1 in the third as freshman
Kendra Barlotta walked, stole second and scored on a two-out RBI single by Visco.
In the fourth, senior 1B
Danielle Dungee singled and junior
Rae Holden walked and stole second, setting the table for Liedberg's one-out, two-RBI single that tied the game at 3-3.
In the bottom of the sixth, Holden had a leadoff single and was replaced by pinch-runner
Kellianne Gaffney, who moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by sophomore OF
Madison Oren and scored on Liedberg's one-out RBI single.
Mende pitched around a two-out single in the fifth, a one-out double that put the go-ahead run in scoring position in the sixth, and threw a 1-2-3 seventh inning including a strikeout after the Warriors took the lead.
