EAST STROUDSBURG - Shippensburg pulled out a 9-7 win in the opener and held on for a 10-6 win in the nightcap to take both ends of a PSAC East softball doubleheader at East Stroudsburg University on Saturday afternoon at Zimbar Field.

Seven ESU players had multiple hits as the Warriors (11-13, 0-8) pounded out 24 hits in the doubleheader.

Shippensburg (11-16, 2-4) managed 27 total hits on the afternoon.

Sophomore OF Madison Oren (4-for-7, 2 doubles, RBI, run) and senior 1B Danielle Dungee (4-for-8, RBI, run) both had four hits with three players contributing three hits each - sophomore OF Cristina Coppola (3-for-4, 3 runs), senior catcher Haley Thomas (3-for-7, triple, walk, 3 runs) and sophomore OF Katherine Liedberg (3-for-7, run).

Game 1 - L 9-7

ESU led 7-6 through five innings, but Ship tied the game in the sixth and scored twice in the seventh to win the opener.

Six ESU players had multiple hits led by Coppola (3-for-4, 2 runs). Freshman 3B Samantha Pickar was 2-for-3 with four RBI, Thomas was 2-for-3 with a walk, triple and two runs, Oren was 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI, Liedberg was 2-for-4 with an RBI and run and Dungee was 2-for-4 with a run.

Nicole Smith was the winning pitcher for Shippensburg, throwing 2.2 innings without allowing a run after ESU hit starter Chloe Collins for seven runs in 4.1 innings.

Ship took a 2-0 lead in the second, with ESU pulling even at 2-2 in the bottom half on a two-out, two-RBI single by Pickar after singles by Dungee and Coppola and a bunt single by Oren.

A three-run homer by Taylor Pattillo gave Ship a 5-2 lead in the third.

ESU cut the deficit to 5-4 in the fourth as Thomas and Coppola singled, Oren had an RBI double, Liedberg reached on an infield single and sophomore 2B Heather Visco was hit by a pitch to plate a run.

After Ship made it 6-4 in the fifth with a sacrifice fly, the Warriors scored three in the bottom half to lead 7-6. Dungee singled, Thomas walked and Coppola had an infield single to start the inning, then Liedberg had an RBI single and Pickar followed with a two-RBI single.

Ship tied it in the sixth with two singles to plate the tying run, and scored twice in the top of the seventh as Pattillo had the go-ahead RBI single before the Raiders left the bases loaded.

Thomas led off the bottom of the seventh with a triple before Smith got out of the inning without any more damage.

Game 2 - L 10-6

Ship used two big innings, a six-run third and three-run fourth, to win the nightcap. ESU scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh to close the margin to 10-6.

ESU led 2-0 through two innings as Visco singled, stole second and scored on an RBI single by Dungee in the first, and junior Rae Holden reached on an error and scored on an RBI single by Liedberg in the second.

Ship scored six runs on eight hits in the third, and Pattillo hit her second home run of the day to extend the Ship lead to 9-2 in the top of the fourth.

ESU got a run back in the bottom of the fourth on a walk, error and RBI groundout by Wallick.

Ship made it 10-3 with a run on three hits in the sixth. In the bottom of the seventh, Thomas and Dungee hit infield singles, Holden had a two-RBI single, Oren doubled and Liedberg had a sacrifice fly to get the Warriors within 10-6.

ESU had 11 hits, including two-hit games by Dungee (2-for-4, RBI), Holden (2-for-4, 2 RBI, run) and Oren (2-for-3, double, walk, run).

Smith was the winning pitcher for Ship, throwing 6.0 innings and allowing five runs (three earned). Collins got all three outs in the seventh.
