EAST STROUDSBURG - Graduate student
Travis Toth improved his NCAA Division II provisional qualifying mark in the hammer to 202-2, leading East Stroudsburg University's competitors at Saturday's 11th annual All-American Meet at Eiler-Martin Stadium.
Toth improved his NCAA DII provisional from 198-9 which ranked 10th on last week's national list. He hit 198-9 twice this season, at Lafayette on March 26 and at Bucknell last Saturday. His mark of 202-2 improves his PR from 198-11, which he threw in 2014, and is one foot off the school record.
Toth was one of six ESU athletes to win individual titles. The Warriors also captured three of the four relay titles.
Other winners were senior
William Berry, who won his fourth straight meet title in the high jump (6-8 3/4), senior
Derrick Washington in the 400m (48.90), senior
Chelsea Conover in the 3000m (10:18.19), sophomore
Kaylyn West in the 1500m (4:50.98) and senior
Tirzah Johnson in the triple jump (35-11 1/4).
Relay titles were the women's 4x100m (Johnson,
Kiana Farrar,
Leiana Dean,
Marissa Flim) in 48.58, the men's 4x100m (
Ernest Pendleton,
Akeim Thomas,
Steven Morgan,
Patrick Monahan in 41.99) and the men's 4x400m (
Christian Castro, Washington, Thomas,
Robert Garvey) in 3:20.99.
Warriors athletes accounted for seven new and 11 improved PSAC qualifiers as they close in on the PSAC Outdoor Championships, which will be held May 12-14 at Mansfield.
ESU's women accrued three new and three improved PSAC qualifiers. New entries are junior
Kiana Farrar in the 200m (25.87), freshman
Joanne Mason in the 100m hurdles (15.72) and freshman
Acacia Douglas in the 100m hurdles (15.73).
Improved conference times were turned in by Flim in the 100m (12.47), junior
Lauren Toth in the 800m (2:19.12) and sophomore
Jaid Harsch in the 100m hurdles (15.00).
Harsch's 100H time ranks fourth in school history and is a PR of three-tenths of a second. Toth's 800 time ranks 10th on ESU's all-time list.
Conover's 3K time of 10:18.19 ranks 10th in school history and is the fastest since Kim Wernerspach, an NCAA DII cross country national qualifier, in 2013.
Toth's PR in the hammer highlighted ESU's men's performances, and was one of four new and eight improved PSAC qualifiers.
Junior
Sean Hagerty improved his PSAC long jump mark to 22-8 after entering the week second (22-4 1/4) on the conference list, and junior
La Treil Ridgeway pushed his triple jump mark to 46-3 1/4 after entering eighth (43-11 1/4).
The remainder of the new and improved PSAC performances were on the track, including four in the 200m. Monahan (22.09) and freshman
Quincy Palmer (22.35) both improved their times, and sophomore
Ernest Pendleton (22.50) and sophomore
Christian Castro (22.52) ran new PSAC qualifiers.
Palmer (11.03) and sophomore
Zach Dillon (11.16) both improved their PSAC times in the 100m. Thomas improved his 110m hurdles time (15.13) and freshman
Mike Matrisciano ran a new PSAC qualifier in the 110H (15.71).
Freshman
Jared Glosser ran a PSAC qualifying time (1:56.70) in the 800m.
There were four new meet records in the 11th edition of the All-American Meet.
One Eiler-Martin Stadium record was tied, with Rebecca Swisher (Franklin & Marshall) clearing 12-4 1/2 in the women's pole vault to match the mark set by Kaitlyn Clark (Slippery Rock) from last year's PSAC Championship meet held at ESU.
