Nunes, No. 20 Warriors Lacrosse (11-2) Tie School Record for Wins, 19-7 at Shippensburg

SHIPPENSBURG - Senior attack Lauren Nunes had two goals and seven assists and three players scored three goals each as No. 20-ranked East Stroudsburg University tied a program record with its 11th win of the season with a 19-7 victory at Shippensburg in PSAC lacrosse on Wednesday afternoon.

Junior attack Lauren Green, junior midfielder Emily Fitzsimmons and freshman midfielder Taylor Jefferis all scored three goals as 10 Warriors found the net. Fitzsimmons had her first career hat trick.

ESU (11-2, 6-2), ranked in the IWLCA DII poll for the first time since the 2012 preseason, led 13-4 at halftime after an 8-1 run in the final 9:06 to finish the first half. The Warriors had runs of five, seven and six consecutive goals in the contest.

The Warriors tied the school record of 11 wins reached three times (2000 - 11-5; 2008 - 11-7; 2010 - 11-7). First-year head coach Xeni Barakos was a defender on the 2008 and 2010 teams.

Sophomore midfielder Chessie Rahmer had two goals and an assist, freshman attack Brooke Fritz scored two goals, senior midfielder Whitney Wilkinson had one goal and two assists, sophomore midfielder Alicia Stratten had a goal and an assist and senior midfielder Annastasia Porpora and redshirt junior midfielder Jamie Zimmer also scored for ESU.

Redshirt junior goalkeeper Jessica Maxwell made 11 saves while allowing five goals in 53:05 of action. Maxwell entered the week second in the PSAC in goals against average (6.98) and save percentage (.529).

Senior attack Kaitlynn Wiltraut added three assists. Wiltraut had scored a goal in 11 straight games (2+ in seven straight) after recording two assists in a 15-0 win vs. WV Wesleyan in the season opener.

Nunes entered the week ranked second in the PSAC and fourth in NCAA Division II in points per game (6.08) and second in the PSAC and third in DII in assists per game (3.67). Her seven assists are one off the school record of eight that she set vs. Wilmington two weeks ago.

She pushed her season totals to 82 points on 31 goals and 51 assists, becoming the first ESU player and 20th PSAC player with 50 assists in a season. She eclipsed the 100 assist mark for her career (104), becoming the first ESU player and 24th PSAC player to hit that mark.

Nunes set ESU's career points record (now 238) in a 17-4 win vs. Edinboro on Saturday, surpassing the previous mark of 228 held by Kristin Restivo (1997-00). Nunes' 82 points this season are five from Restivo's single-season record set in 2000.

Wiltraut surpassed the 150-point mark for her career, ranking 12th at ESU with 152 points (125 goals, 27 assists).

Allison Fugate and Ali Harclerode both scored two goals for Shippensburg (3-8, 0-7), which led 2-0 through the first 10 minutes before the Warriors scored 13 goals over the next 20 minutes to break the game open.

ESU took the lead with a 5-0 run, then scored eight of the next nine goals from the 9:06 mark until the end of the first half. Nunes had a hand in seven of the goals with two goals and five assists, and assisted on two of ESU's first three goals in the second half.

ESU held advantages of 28-22 in shots and 14-13 in draw controls.

The Warriors travel to Erie to face No. 5-ranked Mercyhurst (10-1, 7-0) on Saturday. Three of ESU's final four opponents of the regular season are ranked in this week's IWLCA DII poll in Mercyhurst, No. 7 West Chester and No. 19 IUP. ESU upended then-No. 6 Lock Haven, 8-7, last week.
