EAST STROUDSBURG - Former East Stroudsburg University wrestler Jeff Jacobs earned a bronze medal in the 80kg (176 pound) weight class at the World Championship of Beach Wrestling on Sunday (June 5) in Fazana, Croatia.

Jacobs (Point Pleasant, N.J./Point Pleasant) earned his way into the semifinals with a 3-1 decision vs. Sabri Demirkran (Turkey) in the first round and a 3-0 decision vs. Mustafa Albayrak (Turkey) in the quarterfinals. He lost his semifinal bout, 2-0, vs. Igor Sofroneev (Russia) and gained third place by injury default vs. Eric Barth (Norway), leading 2-0 before Barth was unable to continue due to preexisting injury.

Jacobs was an NCAA Division II national qualifier and was the 2011 Super Region 1 champion at 174 pounds for the Warriors, becoming ESU's first regional champion in its second season after reclassifying to DII.

A three-year letterwinner for ESU, Jacobs posted 56 career wins, including 23 by bonus points (15 falls, 1 technical fall, 7 major decisions). He had a 22-14 record (165 pounds) as a junior in 2009-10 and a 19-10 mark (174) as a senior in 2010-11, when he earned his NCAA trip. Jacobs had a career dual record of 31-20, including seven falls.
