ESU Head Coach Wohlbach to Assist Peru at 2016 Women’s Softball World Championships in British Columbia

EAST STROUDSBURG - East Stroudsburg University softball head coach Jaime Wohlbach will serve as an assistant coach for the Peru National Team at the 2016 Women's Softball World Championships, which will be played July 15-24 in Surrey, British Columbia.

Wohlbach completed her first season at ESU last spring, helping the Warriors to 19-21 record. ESU had two All-PSAC East selections in sophomore second baseman Heather Visco and senior catcher Haley Thomas.

Peru will be one of 31 nations competing in the tournament, which is sponsored by the WBSC (World Baseball Softball Confederation).

Wohlbach has extensive experience competing and coaching internationally, including the Czech Republic, Great Britain, Switzerland, Italy, Australia and New Zealand.

Most recently, she coached an all-star team in Rome, Italy in the summer of 2015. She previously competed professionally for Team Caserta in Caserta, Italy in 2007 and was a member of the 30-player squad of the Italian national team.

She participated in tours in the Czech Republic, Great Britain and Italy, and played professionally in New Zealand in 2004 and 2005. She also competed on a world all-star select team which included players from the U.S., New Zealand, Australia, Japan and South Africa.

In 2004, she played for the Great Britain National Team in Athens, Greece as a test run for the 2004 Athens Olympics. From 2001-04, she coached an 18-under USA All-Star team in Australia following the 2000 Sydney Olympics. She also played professionally in the Netherlands, Czech Republic and Switzerland, and coached a youth all-star team in Italy.

Prior to arriving at ESU in December 2015, Wohlbach was head coach at the University of Delaware for five years (2011-15) and Iona College (2008-10). She helped Iona win the MAAC championship in 2010, and made three straight CAA Tournament appearances at Delaware.

As a professional player domestically, Wohlbach signed with the Tampa Bay FireStix in the former Women's Professional Softball League for the 2001 season. She was selected in the fourth round of the December 2003 draft in the National Pro Fastpitch League by the California Sunbirds in Sacramento. She played for the independent league Nebraska Comets and the NPF's Philadelphia Force in 2006.

Wohlbach is a 2000 graduate of Kutztown, where she was a two-time All-PSAC East selection at catcher.
