EAST STROUDSBURG - Junior midfielder
Sammi Ortiz scored two goals 48 seconds apart early in the second half, leading No. 4-ranked East Stroudsburg University to a 3-0 win over Millersville in PSAC women's soccer on Tuesday afternoon at Eiler-Martin Stadium.
Ortiz scored both goals in the 55th minute - 9:05 and 9:53 into the second half - after the Warriors scored the opener 6:11 into the game on a goal by senior forward
Brielyn Hackett, assisted by senior midfielder
Shea Neal. Hackett had the assist on Ortiz's first goal.
Junior goalkeeper
Jules Harris made three saves for ESU (5-0, 5-0 PSAC), which moved up one spot to No. 4 in this week's NSCAA Division II poll after being ranked No. 5 last week.
ESU improved its season goal margin to 13-1, including four shutouts. Harris had her 18th career solo shutout (21st overall shutout) in 43 starts.
Ortiz's goals were the shortest between two goals by an ESU player since at least the 2003 season.
Shea Neal scored twice in a span of 1:34 in a win vs. IUP in 2014.
ESU's 5-0 PSAC record is tied for the best PSAC start in school history. The Warriors also opened 5-0 in conference games in 1994 and 2013.
ESU had a 16-6 advantage in shots, including 11-2 in the second half. Samantha Wolfe made five saves for Millersville (1-4, 1-4).
Ortiz entered the game with five goals and four assists while starting all 47 games in her career for the Warriors. She had three goals and three assists on last year's PSAC and NCAA Division II Atlantic Regional championship team.
Hackett pushed her career totals to 14 goals and six assists.
Neal, a three-time All-Region first team and 2014 NSCAA All-America first team selection, moved into a tie for sixth at ESU in career points (59) with former teammate
Sammi Jo Hughes, and a tie for 10th in career assists (13).
ESU travels to Mercyhurst for a conference game on Saturday.
