ERIE - Freshman midfielder
Danielle Cary scored the game's only goal in the 24th minute, giving No. 4-ranked East Stroudsburg University a 1-0 win at Mercyhurst in PSAC women's soccer on Saturday afternoon.
ESU (6-0, 6-0) set a program record for its best-ever PSAC start and posted its fifth shutout in six games this season, winning its first six games by a 14-1 goal differential. Four of the Warriors' five shutouts have been on the road.
Junior goalkeeper
Jules Harris made two saves for ESU, which held a 17-6 margin in shots - 8-3 in the first half and 9-3 in the second half.
Kristen Koch made eight saves for Mercyhurst (3-2-1, 3-2-1).
The Warriors, the two-time defending PSAC champions and 2015 NCAA DII Atlantic Region champion, improves to 40-8-3 since the start of the 2014 season.
ESU's 6-0 PSAC start betters its 5-0 starts in 1994 and 2013.
Cary's goal was the second of her freshman season, also scoring ESU's third goal in last Saturday's 5-0 win at Pitt-Johnstown.
Harris had her 22nd career shutout (19th solo) in 44 starts for the Warriors.
The Warriors are idle mid-week and host Clarion next Saturday at 4 p.m. at Eiler-Martin Stadium.
