ESU Women Take 4th, Men Place 6th at Kutztown XC Meet

KUTZTOWN – A top five finish from senior Allison Decker helped lead to a fourth-place showing overall for the East Stroudsburg University women's cross country team at Saturday's Kutztown DII/DIII Challenge.

The Warrior women placed fourth out of 20 scoring squads in the 6K race, paced by Decker's time of 22:54.40 which ranked her fifth out of 244 runners. The men, meanwhile, took sixth out of 19 teams in the 8K race, with top 20 showings from senior Alec Lederer and junior Jeremy Rapposelli.

This was the cross country team's first trip to Kutztown since the 2013 season. Decker was followed on the women's side by junior Samantha Young, who also cracked the top 20 in 19th after crossing the line in 23:47.20.

Senior Lauren Toth (35th – 24:17.10), freshman Rachel Eidson (49th – 24:48.90) and junior Jasmine Amro (54th – 25:03.01) rounded out the scorers for ESU, which finished with 162 points as a team. Bloomsburg (69 points) was the top team finisher, while California's Summer Hill (22:05.20) was the first to cross the finish line.

Lederer paced the men's squad for the second time in as many weeks, earning a 12th-place result out of 217 runners with a time of 26:37.00. Rapposelli was less than 20 seconds behind, checking in at 26:56.50 to grab 17th place.

Senior Alex Zubko (41st – 27:32.80), junior Dan Buccino (43rd – 27:38.20) and senior Taylor Piekos (57th – 27:49.80) completed the Warriors top five. ESU earned 170 points to finish five places behind Mount Olive at the top of the leaderboard. The top two individual runners (Adam Craig and Jonathan Dahlke) also represented Mount Olive.

The Warriors will have next weekend off before returning to action on Saturday, Oct. 1 at Lehigh's Paul Short Invitational.
