JAMESVILLE, N.Y. - Junior
Samantha Miller carded a two-day score of 153 (+9) to finish fifth in a field of 58, leading East Stroudsburg University at the Le Moyne Fall Invitational on Sunday and Monday at The Pompey Club.
Miller shot rounds of 77 and 76 - ESU's first sub-80 rounds since 2010 - on the par-72 course. She was just three shots off the individual lead.
ESU finished eighth of 10 schools. Gannon won the team title by 31 shots over Kutztown, with Le Moyne and West Chester tied for third.
Junior
Mackenzie Mathna finished tied for 40th at 185, followed by sophomore
Caterina Daniels (48th - 197) and freshmen
Amy Bergquist and
Gabbi Budd, who finished t-52nd (206).
Miller's opening round of 77 placed her third through Sunday's action.
Manuela Quevedo (Gannon) won a playoff over Taylor Daskivich (West Chester) for medalist honors. Both finished with two-day totals of 150 (+6). Julia Santo (Gannon), the leader after Sunday with a two-under par 70, shot 81 on Monday to finish third at 151.
Miller is the third ESU golfer to shoot a round in the 70's, and the second to shoot consecutive rounds in the 70's in the same tournament.
Karen Cash put together rounds of 73 and 78 at the PSAC Championships in 2010 to finish tied for third in the conference, and had five rounds in the 70's during the 2009-10 season. Briana Malachowski shot two sub-80 rounds in 2008-09, ESU's first season sponsoring varsity women's golf.
Miller's previous personal best round was an 80 on the first day of the PSAC Championships last fall.
The Warriors return to action on Tuesday, September 27 at the Ursinus Invitational at Raven's Claw Golf Club in Collegeville, Pa.
