EAST STROUDSBURG - Katrina Janssen had 15 kills and eight blocks to lead Caldwell to a 3-2 win over East Stroudsburg University in the Warriors' final match of this weekend's season-opening tournament at Koehler Fieldhouse.
ESU (2-2) fell 3-0 to Pace in its first match on Saturday. The Warriors opened the year with wins vs. Lincoln (3-0) and Bluefield State (3-1) on Friday.
Freshman outside hitter
Sarah Smith had 18 kills to lead ESU in its first match of the day vs. Pace. Freshman outside hitter
Sam Dunphy had 14 kills, Smith added 10 and freshman middle blocker
Britney Hewitt had eight against Caldwell.
Sophomore
Tina Predojevic had 30 assists, 15 digs and six kills in the five-set match. Sophomore
Kimberly McCann had 15 assists and 15 digs, and junior outside hitter
Rosa Veliky also had 15 digs.
Freshman libero
Abby Moore had a team-high 30 digs for the Warriors against Caldwell.
Pace won by set scores of 28-26, 25-20 and 25-14. Caldwell prevailed, 19-25, 25-18, 25-19, 26-28, 15-10, after dropping the first set. ESU fought off four match points to force the fifth set.
Smith had a team-high 49 kills on the weekend, followed by 21 from junior middle blocker
Courtney Miller and 20 each from Veliky and Hewitt, who had a team-best 14 blocks.
Predojevic had 19 kills, 85 assists and 38 digs, and McCann added 44 assists and 38 digs.
Moore had a team-leading 67 digs, averaging 4.79 per set.
ESU welcomes Queens (N.Y.) on Tuesday night at 7 p.m. at Koehler Fieldhouse before hosting another tournament next weekend (September 9-10).
