Box Score

EAST STROUDSBURG – Junior guard Imani Brown tied a career-high with 28 points, finishing one shy of a school record with seven made 3-pointers, but 34 points from Lexi Carpenter helped Slippery Rock pull out a 70-66 victory over East Stroudsburg University on Saturday afternoon at Koehler Fieldhouse.

Brown's 28 points were the most scored by any player for the Warriors (9-6, 5-6 PSAC) this season. She hit 10 of 20 shots from the field and 7 of 15 attempts from long distance while also pulling down eight rebounds.

Carpenter, a first team All-PSAC West performer in 2015-16, hit 10 of 26 shots from the floor and 11 of 13 free throw attempts, with her last made free throw making it a two possession game with seven seconds remaining. The Rock (8-9, 5-6 PSAC) snapped a four-game losing streak.

Senior guard Rachel Falkowski totaled eight points, matched a career-high with nine rebounds and dished out a career-best six assists for ESU. Sophomore guard Noelle Powell chipped in 13 points, and sophomore center Meghan Boryeskne established new career-highs in points (12), rebounds (5) and blocks (2) in 19 minutes off the bench.

Brown, Powell and Boryeskne accounted for all 20 ESU points in the first quarter, as the Warriors held a 20-17 edge after the opening 10 minutes. Brown netted 10 points in the frame, sinking 4 of 6 field goal attempts.

The Lake Hopatcong, N.J., native upped her total to 13 points with a 3-pointer 29 seconds into the second, but Slippery Rock followed with a 12-0 run over the next 6:09 of play to take a 29-23 advantage. Brown broke the drought with her fourth 3-pointer, and ESU ended the half with a 11-3 run of its own to reclaim a 34-32 lead at the intermission.

A Falkowski layup gave the Warriors their largest lead of eight points at 49-41 with 3:47 left in the third quarter. Carpenter then scored nine of SRU's 11 points during an 12-2 run which swung momentum back towards the visitors. Her 34 points on the afternoon are tied for the most by an ESU opponent in the past 15 years.

Slippery Rock held a 56-54 edge heading into the final 10 minutes. Though the Rock's margin was never greater than five points in the fourth, the Warriors were never able to regain a lead for the remainder of the contest.

ESU pulled within three at 69-66 with eight seconds remaining after Powell sank 2 of 3 free throws, but Carpenter hit 1 of 2 FT's on the other side to close out the win.

After playing at Koehler Fieldhouse for four of the past five games, the Warriors will now hit the road for three of their next four contests, beginning with a 5:30 p.m. matchup at PSAC East leader Shippensburg (12-5, 7-4 PSAC) on Wednesday night.

Notes:

Brown previously tallied 28 points on Jan. 3 last season, as ESU upset defending DII national champions California 74-73 at Koehler Fieldhouse. Her 28 points today were tied for the most by a Warrior player in 2016-17, matching Powell's 28-point output against Chestnut Hill on Nov. 28. Brown netted 20+ points for the fifth time in her career (second this season).

With her 12 points, Boryeskne reached double figures for the first time in her ESU career. She hit 6 of 9 shots from the floor to surpass her career-best seven points set on Wednesday night against Kutztown.

Maryellen Onofre (2003-07) holds the ESU record for most 3-pointers in a game. She drilled eight long balls on Jan. 25, 2007 against Columbia Union.
