SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – Sophomore guard
Noelle Powell led all scorers with 22 points, netting 20+ points for a third time this season, but it was not enough as East Stroudsburg University fell by a 79-65 final at Shippensburg on Wednesday night.
Morgan Griffith, the reigning PSAC East Athlete of the Year, had 20 points and six rebounds to lead the Raiders (13-5, 8-4 PSAC) to an eighth-straight win, all by double-digit margins.
Powell hit nine of her first 12 shots from the field, including four of her first five attempts from 3-point range. Senior guard
Rachel Falkowski added a season-high 12 points in 32 minutes for the Warriors (9-7, 5-7 PSAC).
Shippensburg never trailed in the contest, scoring the first six points and extending its lead to 23-12 by the end of the first quarter. The score remained 11 points at 38-27 heading into halftime, as Powell and senior guard
Madison Tamburini combined to keep ESU within striking distance. Powell scored 13 of her 22 points in the opening half and Tamburini tallied all eight of her points in the first 20 minutes. The duo shot 8 for 13 from the floor, while the rest of the team went 2 for 17.
The Raiders hit 51.9 percent of their field goal attempts in the first half (14-27) and they took their proficient shooting to another level in the third quarter. The home side sank nine of their first 10 shots from the floor in the frame, and they finished the quarter 10 for 12 (83.3 percent).
That hot shooting allowed Shippensburg to up its lead to 63-44 at the end of the third, and the Warriors trailed by as many as 24 points in the fourth before ending the game on a 13-3 run. Colleen Young (19 points, 9-12 FG) and Lauren Gold (10 points) joined Griffith in double figures for the Raiders.
Powell entered tonight ranked second in the PSAC in 3-point field goal percentage at 43.6 percent, and she increased that figure tonight after draining 4 of 8 attempts from long distance.
ESU forced 20 turnovers in the game and ended the evening with 10 steals, led by three from junior guard

Courtney Brown.
The Warriors remain on the road for their next contest on Saturday, as head coach
Diane Decker's squad travels to Bloomsburg (4-12, 3-9 PSAC) for a 3 p.m. tip. The Huskies have won three games in a row, including a 68-66 win at Kutztown on Wednesday.
