BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Sophomore Aspen Gaita set her fourth school record of the season in the pentathlon at Bucknell on Friday, and sophomore Pat Monahan matched the school record in the 60-meter dash at Lehigh's Covert Classic on Saturday to highlight a strong overall weekend for East Stroudsburg University track & field.

Gaita totaled 3,701 points on Friday, well ahead of both Leslie Martin's school record of 3,594 points, set back in 2007, and the NCAA DII provisional standard of 3,285 points. The Stroudsburg native had already eclipsed the NCAA mark with her 3,534 points total at Lehigh on Dec. 9.

At Bucknell, Gaita reached NCAA provisional standards in the 60-meter hurdles (8.62) and the high jump (5-6 1/2), and she also topped the field of 17 competitors in the long jump (17-11 1/2) and 800m (2:27.55). Her high jump time was a new season-best, and it ranks tied for eighth all-time in program history. Gaita has set or matched school records this year in the pentathlon, 55m hurdles (8.08), 60m hurdles (8.59) and long jump (18-1).

The Warriors won six events at Lehigh on Saturday, with Monahan topping a field of 45 runners in the 60m dash after crossing the line in 7.00. That is one-hundredth quicker than his previous season-best, and it ties Ian Melhorn's school record time which was set in 2012. Later in the afternoon, Monahan would place fourth out of 49 competitors in the 200m dash with a time of 23.11.

The ESU men's team also had a 1-2-3 finish in the 60m hurdles by senior Steve Morgan, junior Christian Castro and junior Ronald D'Eliseo. Morgan finished the race in 8.18, matching his season-best time which is below the NCAA DII provisional standard of 8.27, while D'Eliseo booked his spot at the PSAC championships with his time of 8.44.

Senior Erin Brady, freshman Tiana Webster, freshman Sarah Smith and freshman Alexis Schuldes entered the record books on the women's side. Brady completed the 500m in 1:19.11 (No. 4 all-time) to best a field of 19 runners, while Webster beat out 36 other competitors in the 60m dash with her time of 7.91 (No. 8 all-time). Webster was followed by sophomore Marissa Flim (7.98) in second place, and freshman Morgan Dey (8.14) was additionally just under the PSAC standard of 8.15.

Smith placed third out of 26 in the triple jump with a PSAC-qualifying effort of 36-5 3/4, putting her No. 8 all-time. Schuldes, meanwhile, took fifth in the shot put with a top PSAC-qualifying throw of 39-4 1/2 which ranks ninth in program history.

Smith and sophomore Victoria Matthews added a first-place showing for the Warriors in the high jump, with the duo tying for first with matching distances of 5-3. Matthews matched her season-best in the event, while Smith's distance was a new PR.

The final first-place effort came from the men's 4x400m relay team of freshman Andrew Schumacher, senior Robert Garvey, freshman Anthony Del Popolo and D'Eliseo, which crossed the line in 3:23.61, over two seconds ahead of Lehigh's 'A' team in second.

ESU had a total of 11 new PSAC marks on Saturday, and the Warriors reached PSAC standards 33 times overall on the weekend.

Four of those new PSAC times were in the women's 800m, with senior Kaylyn West (2:20.54 – 6th of 38), junior Hope Decker (2:23.78), Matthews (2:24.03) and junior Samantha Young (2:24.23) all under the PSAC standard of 2:25.66.

Senior Lauren Toth (5:23.57 in the mile) and Garvey (51.56 – 2nd of 39 in the 400m dash) also qualified for PSACs, while senior Sean Hagerty was second out of 43 competitors in the long jump with a top effort of 22-8 1/2 which was just off his season-best of 23-0 1/2.

Competing with Gaita at Bucknell, sophomore Nate Sharrah registered a total of 3,983 points in the heptathlon, a total which ranks him seventh in program history.

ESU will compete in two meets next weekend, with select Warriors traveling to New York City for the Armory Invitational on Friday and Saturday while others will compete in the DeSchriver Invitational at Koehler Fieldhouse on Sunday.
