EAST STROUDSBURG – Sophomore Sarah Smith registered her seventh double-double of the season with 11 kills and 13 digs to help lead East Stroudsburg University to a 3-0 win over Kutztown on Tuesday evening. Set scores were 25-16, 25-11, 25-23.

The Warriors (11-7, 2-5 PSAC) hit .219 as a team, and they limited the Golden Bears (5-14, 0-7 PSAC) to a -.073 attack percentage. Sophomore Sam Dunphy and senior Desiree Claxton added nine kills apiece for ESU, while sophomore Jasmine Williams tied a season and career-high with seven blocks.

The home side never trailed in each of the first two sets. The Warriors held a 16-12 advantage in the opener when Smith totaled a pair of kills during a 5-0 run which put the frame out of reach. Smith then added two more kills in a 4-0 stretch to begin the second set. That was one of three runs of four or more straight points during that set for ESU, which quickly grabbed a 2-0 advantage in the match

Kutztown took its first lead at 13-12 in the third set, and the visitors maintained a 17-15 edge midway through the frame. Kills by Dunphy and Claxton highlighted another 4-0 run for the Warriors which put them back in front, and the two teams went back-and-forth for the remainder of the set. With the score tied at 23-23, a Kutztown attack error and a Claxton kill clinched ESU's second PSAC win of the year.

The Warriors led 10-5 in blocks overall, with Williams (1 BS, 6 BA) once again a key factor in controlling play at the net. Williams, who entered the night ranked sixth in the PSAC in blocks per set, has recorded five or more blocks in six matches this season. Dunphy (3 BA) and senior Courtney Miller (2 BS, 1 BA) also had strong performances up front for ESU.

Smith's double-double was her 11th overall in her collegiate career. Senior Rosa Veliky added a team-high 15 digs to lead the Warriors defensively.

ESU has now won three in a row over the Golden Bears after having dropped each of the previous 13 meetings between the two schools.

The Warriors remain at Koehler Fieldhouse for two more PSAC matchups over the weekend. ESU hosts Pitt-Johnstown at 7 p.m. on Friday and Lock Haven at 1 p.m. the following afternoon.
