EAST STROUDSBURG – Sophomore
Marina Zardet earned a 7-5, 6-3 victory over Nyenyeri Kanefu at No. 1 singles, tallying the lone win for East Stroudsburg University in an 8-1 defeat to St. Thomas Aquinas at Wolbers Courts on Tuesday afternoon.
Zardet ends the fall portion of the 2017-18 schedule with a 3-1 record in dual matches for the Warriors (0-4), with all four of those contests coming from the top singles position. She is 13-5 overall in dual singles matches through her first season and a half at ESU.
The Spartans (6-8) clinched the match with straight-set victories at No. 2 and No. 3 singles. The remaining singles contests were played as eight-game pro sets. Freshman
Amanda Jackson came closest to adding a second win for the home side, as she fell 8-4 to Carolyn Kopf at No. 6 singles.
Jackson and fellow freshman
Quinn McCluskey were also competitive throughout in their No. 3 doubles tilt against Kopf and Katarina Lopez, as they led in the later stages of the match before ultimately dropping an 8-6 decision. Jackson and McCluskey end the fall with wins in four of their six matches as a doubles team.
ESU will resume its 2017-18 season in March.
