EAST STROUDSBURG - Freshman midfielder
Haley Skove scored both goals, one in each half, as East Stroudsburg University posted its fifth straight win with a 2-0 victory over Lock Haven in PSAC women's soccer on Wednesday at Eiler-Martin Stadium.
Skove scored 1:16 into the game - ESU's earliest goal since at least 2003 - and 6:17 into the second half, as the Warriors (8-2-1, 8-2) earned the eighth win in their last nine PSAC games.
Sophomore back
Jessica Woodbyrne, who scored the only goal in Saturday's 1-0 win vs. Slippery Rock, had the assist off a free kick on Skove's goal in the 52nd minute.
Senior goalkeeper
Jules Harris made eight saves for her sixth shutout (fourth solo shutout) of the season, and ESU's fourth in the last five games in which the Warriors have an 18-1 goal differential.
Harris extended her school records to 34 shutouts (28 solo) in 72 starts, posting a 53-14-5 career record which includes three straight PSAC championships.
The win is ESU's 58th in the last four seasons (58-15-6), tying last year's four-year class (58-20-7) for the most in school history. This year's senior class is comprised of Harris (4-year starter), midfielder
Sammi Ortiz (79 starts - every game), forward
Molly Vicari (1st-year starter) and midfielder
Nikki Weiss.
ESU had advantages of 21-13 in shots, including 15-8 in the first half, and 9-4 in corner kicks.
Bree Hilty had five saves in goal for Lock Haven (3-6, 3-6).
ESU's three straight PSAC titles are tied with Lock Haven (1999-2001) for the longest streak in conference history.
Skove has four goals this season, tied for second-most on the Warriors, who have built a 28-5 scoring margin through 11 games. Woodbyrne, who also has four goals, added her second assist of the year.
The Warriors travel to Gannon (8-1-1, 8-1), ranked No. 22 in this week's NSCAA Division II poll, for a 1 p.m. start on Sunday.
