Warriors Sweep Cheyney on Senior Day, Conclude Most-Successful Season Since 2006

EAST STROUDSBURG – On a day where East Stroudsburg University recognized its seven seniors for their contributions to the program, all seven played a key role in the Warriors' 3-0 victory over Cheyney to wrap up the 2017 season. Set scores were 25-6, 25-9, 25-14.

ESU (17-13, 7-11 PSAC) earns its most wins in a year since 2006 and places second in the PSAC Southeast division for a second-consecutive season. The Warriors went 5-1 overall this season against division opponents.

Seniors Rosa Veliky and Maddie Reichard led the offense with nine kills apiece, while fellow senior Sarah Fillman followed with six kills and senior Courtney Miller tallied kills on all five of her attack attempts. Reichard added a career-high five aces on the service line.

Veliky did not have a dig on Saturday as she shifted away from her usual libero role, but she will still finish her ESU career ranked No. 9 all-time with 1,120 digs overall. Her 525 digs this fall are the 10th most in ESU single-season history.

Senior Desiree Claxton leapfrogged Veliky for No. 8 on the all-time list with four to her credit this afternoon. She concludes a memorable four years ranked No. 3 in program history in kills (1,208) and eighth in digs (1,122). Claxton is also the first Warrior in at least 25 years to register 250+ kills and 250+ digs in each of her four collegiate seasons.

Senior Erica Cunningham had a team-high 24 assists on Saturday, giving her a career total of 1,803 which is No. 6 all-time in team history. Cunningham additionally added three more aces to her team-leading total of 43 on the year. She concludes the regular season ranked second in the PSAC in aces per set (0.50).

Senior Lydia Redman led the ESU defensive effort with eight digs, and she picked up one ace to move her career-high season total to 25.

Miller supplied two blocks to go along with her five kills. That gives her 101 for the year, making her the fourth Warrior in team history to reach 100 blocks in a season. Her 211 career blocks are ranked eighth all-time, and her career attack percentage of .276 is fourth all-time.

The Warriors hit .472 as a team and improved to 61-0 lifetime against Cheyney (0-26, 0-18 PSAC).
