WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – Junior
Briana Hall touched the line first in a pair of races to highlight 20 individual top 10 finishes overall for East Stroudsburg University at the two-day Diamond City Invitational which concluded on Sunday.
The Warriors placed second out of 12 schools with 481.5 points, 1.5 ahead of third-place Misericordia. In addition to their individual success, ESU placed in the top five in each of the five relay races over the weekend.
Hall beat out 70 other swimmers in the 50-yard freestyle on Saturday morning with a time of 24.95. She then registered a new PSAC qualifying mark in the 100 butterfly with a race-winning time of 1:00.64 which ranks No. 8 in ESU program history. Hall was followed in that race by senior teammate
Allison Cardow, who touched the wall in 1:00.98.
Cardow and Hall were included in a group of five Warriors who placed in the top 10 in each of their three individual events. Cardow added finishes of fourth in the 200 individual medley (season-best PSAC time of 2:17.55) and seventh in the 200 backstroke (2:18.76) while Hall added a third-place showing in the 100 free (56.23).
Hall was out-touched by sophomore
Olivia Lukshides in that race, as Lukshides took a second off her previous season best with a second-place time of 55.10. She was also fourth out of 38 swimmers in Saturday's 200 free (2:02.39).
The other ESU swimmers with three top 10 times were senior
Kate Zimmerman, senior
Colleen Dwyer and sophomore
Tarah Killane. Zimmerman was the runner-up in the 400 IM (4:55.78), third in the 100 breaststroke (1:08.98) and fourth in the 200 breast (2:33.08).
Dwyer participated in the 50 free (t-eighth, 26.07), 100 backstroke (sixth, 1:03.04) and 200 back (ninth, 2:19.48), while Killane stood out in the 1650 free (third, 18:39.18), 500 free (sixth, 5:28.91) and 200 free (ninth, season-best 2:04.72).
A pair of freshman accounted for the remaining three top 10 times.
Bri Bieber took over three seconds off her previous season best while placing sixth in the 200 back (2:18.02) and she was also ninth in the 400 IM (5:12.30). Fellow newcomer
Julia Harnish added a ninth-place result in the 200 breast (2:40.16).
ESU had runner-up performances in three of the weekend's five relays. Hall, Zimmerman, Dwyer and Lukshides began the meet by placing second out of 20 teams in the 200 free relay (1:41.88), Dwyer/Zimmerman/Cardow/Hall were second in the 400 medley relay (4:09.03) and Hall/Killane/Dwyer/Lukshides were second in the 400 free relay (3:45.68).
The Warriors were additionally third out of 19 teams in the 200 medley relay and fifth out of 16 in the 800 free relay.
ESU is off next weekend before returning to the pool at the TCNJ Invitational, a three-day competition which begins on Friday, December 1.
