ESU Postseason Honors (PDF)
EAST STROUDSBURG - East Stroudsburg University senior goalkeeper
Jules Harris has been named to the United Soccer Coaches All-America second team, becoming the sixth All-America selection - and first goalkeeper - in program history, released Wednesday.
Harris is one of five Warriors named All-Atlantic Region by the region's coaches (formerly NSCAA). She is joined by senior midfielder
Sammi Ortiz on the first team, with sophomore back
Hannah Saggese on the second team and junior forward
Alex Pickett and freshman midfielder
Haley Skove on the third team.
ESU finished the season with a 15-4-4 record, was the Atlantic Region runner-up and won its record-setting fourth straight PSAC championship.
Harris is the fifth member of ESU's 2014 team (20-1-1), which won the first of four straight PSAC championships, to earn All-America honors in their careers, joining back Lexie Peveraro (2014), back Laurel Neira (2014), midfielder Shea Neal (2014, 2016) and back Hannah Gombos (2016).
Harris, Ortiz, Saggese and Skove were all named to the D2CCA All-Region first team, selected by the region's sports information directors, two weeks ago.
Harris is one of three PSAC players named All-America, along with Kutztown midfielder Maddie Mohr on the first team, and West Chester back Julia Kirkpatrick on the second team.
Harris is a four-time All-Region selection, including three on the United Soccer Coaches/NSCAA team. She repeats as the first team goalkeeper by both organizations (coaches and SID's), was named second team by the coaches as a sophomore and first team by the SID's as a freshman in 2014.
Ortiz is a three-time All-Region selection by the NSCAA and earned first team status for the first time. She was also a first team D2CCA selection this year. She was on the NSCAA second team as a sophomore and junior.
Pickett earns her second All-Region honor after consensus first team honors as a sophomore last season.
Saggese is recognized in her first season as a starter, and Skove in her first collegiate season. Skove is one of three freshmen among the 36 players selected by the coaches.
Harris (Orangeburg, N.Y./Tappan Zee) put together a record-setting career in helping lead the Warriors to four consecutive PSAC titles - the first in conference history. ESU advanced to at least the second round of the NCAA Division II Tournament all four seasons, winning the 2015 Atlantic Region title and reaching the regional final again in 2017.
She finished with 41 career shutouts and 35 solo shutouts, tying the PSAC record for solo shutouts, in 84 career starts - posting a 60-16-8 record and 0.69 goals against average.
She helped ESU to a 14-3-4 postseason record in her career, advancing in 17 of its 21 games - including 16 of 19 with Harris starting in goal. She backstopped the Warriors to a 5-0-1 record in six games, all as the lower seed, to capture the PSAC and Atlantic Region titles in 2015 before falling 2-0 at Bridgeport in the Elite 8.
Harris had a 0.59 goals against average with 0.872 save percentage as a senior, breaking her own ESU single-season records for shutouts (13) and solo shutouts (11). She was named PSAC Tournament MVP with shutouts against nationally-ranked Kutztown and West Chester in the PSAC semifinals and championship game.
Along with her four career All-Region honors, she was named first team All-PSAC as a junior and senior and to the second team as a freshman in 2014.
Ortiz (Kennett Square, Pa./Unionville), a three-time All-PSAC selection with first team honors the last two years, is a three-time All-Region selection in the midfield.
She started all 91 games in her career, an ESU record and the second-most in PSAC history - posting a 65-17-9 record over four years.
A defensive midfielder as a senior, she helped anchor a group that allowed just 14 goals (12 non-penalty goals) in 23 games. She added two assists while controlling both ends of the field for the Warriors.
She had nine career goals and seven assists overall, with four goals and an assist as a junior, three goals and three assists as a sophomore and two goals and an assist as a freshman.
Saggese (Oneonta, N.Y./Milford Central) is a first team All-PSAC and an All-Region selection in her first season as a starter at right back, where she replaced All-America Hannah Gombos. She started all 23 games and had seven assists as an attacking threat, including five - the PSAC record vs. a DII school - in a 9-0 win at California in September.
She played in 12 games and made three starts in the midfield as a freshman before moving into a full-time starting role this season, as one of three first-time starters among ESU's back four.
Pickett (Oakhurst, N.J./Ocean Township), second team All-PSAC, earns her second career All-Region honor with five goals and four assists, starting all 23 games. She had two goals and an assist in an important 4-2 win vs. Edinboro and ranked fourth on the Warriors in goals and points (14).
She has 23 career goals, tied for seventh in school history, and 11 assists in 65 games, including 55 starts. She was consensus first team All-Region, leading the region in goals (14) and points (33), as a sophomore in 2016.
Skove (Lawrenceville, N.J./Notre Dame) started all 23 games as a freshman, posting six goals and three assists, including the game's only goal in the 77th minute of ESU's 1-0 win vs. West Chester in the PSAC championship game. ESU's top threat in the air, Skove was a valuable contributor as a two-way midfielder on a team that replaced six starters, including three All-America selections, from last fall.
ESU has 21 individuals named All-Region in 11 seasons under head coach
Rob Berkowitz, who was recognized along with assistant coach
Meagan DeWan and graduate assistant
Megan Carroll as the United Soccer Coaches Atlantic Region Coaching Staff of the Year.
Ten Warriors have been multiple-time All-Region selections by the coaches organization under Berkowitz, including Harris (3x), Ortiz (3x) and Pickett (2x).
