EAST STROUDSBURG – Sophomore
Tarah Killane won all four distance freestyle races, while senior
Kate Zimmerman and junior
Briana Hall each added three individual victories to help East Stroudsburg University sweep California and Kutztown in a two-day tri-meet.
The Warriors (4-1) topped California (6-2) by a 234-170 final, while they handled Kutztown (1-3) by a 268-136 margin. The competition began at Kutztown on Friday night and concluded at Koehler Fieldhouse on Saturday.
ESU won 18 of the 22 races overall, including all four relays. Senior
Colleen Dwyer added two individual victories, while seniors
Annie Fagan and
Allison Cardow each tallied one win.
Killane took first place in the 500 free (twice), the 1,000 free and the 1,650 free. She added new PSAC qualifying efforts in both the 500 (Friday's time of 5:25.31) and the 1,000 (11:05.88), and she took 15 seconds off her previous season best time in the 1,650 (18:35.24).
Zimmerman also registered new season bests in three races. She established a new PSAC mark while placing second in the 400 individual medley (4:52.75) and she lowered her PSAC times while touching the line first in the 200 IM (2:15.58) and 200 breaststroke (2:31.30). Zimmerman also took first in the 100 breast (1:08.88) on Friday night.
Hall's three first-place showings came in Friday's 100 free (55.18), Saturday's 50 free (25.04) and Saturday's 100 free (55.30). She has already posted PSAC marks in both events.
Dwyer earned the top spot in the 100 and 200 backstroke races, and her time of 2:15.48 in the 200 back was a new PSAC qualifier. ESU's fifth and final new PSAC time over the weekend came from Cardow during her third-place effort in the 200 IM (2:18.16). Cardow's race win came in the 100 butterfly (1:01.22), and she added a new season-best mark of 2:14.56 in the 200 fly.
Fagan rounded out the Warriors' individual winners after posting a 25.14 in Friday's 50 free. Her 100 free time of 55.79 on Saturday is also a new season best. Fagan is the ESU record holder in both events.
Friday night included wins for the 200 medley relay foursome of Dwyer, Zimmerman, Hall and Fagan (1:52.50) and the 400 free group of Fagan, Dwyer, sophomore
Olivia Lukshides and Hall (3:44.55). On Saturday, the Warriors topped the field in the 400 medley relay (Dwyer, Zimmerman, Cardow, Lukshides – 4:07.65) and the 200 free relay (Fagan, Dwyer, Lukshides, Hall – 1:41.28). ESU finished over a second ahead of its competition in all four relay races.
California placed eighth at last year's PSAC championships, just ahead of ESU's ninth-place showing. Kutztown finished 11th at the 2016 conference meet.
The Warriors are now away from Koehler Fieldhouse until Feb. 3. Their next competition will be the Diamond City Invitational, a two-day meet held in Wilkes-Barre on Nov. 18-19.
