EAST STROUDSBURG - East Stroudsburg University's field hockey program is the national No. 2 seed and earned a first-round bye to the NCAA Division II Final Four, which will be held Friday and Sunday (November 17 and 19) in Louisville, Kentucky.
ESU (17-4) is the Atlantic Region's top seed. The NCAA is seeding the six teams selected for the tournament (three Atlantic Region, three East Region) for the first time.
The Warriors will play the winner of this weekend's first-round game between No. 3 seed Shippensburg (14-4) and No. 6 Stonehill (13-6) in the national semifinals.
No. 1 seed LIU Post (18-3) will take on the winner of No. 4 Saint Anselm (17-2) and No. 5 Millersville (14-5).
ESU will play in the first semifinal at 10 a.m., followed by LIU Post in the second semifinal at 1 p.m. The championship game will be played Sunday at 11 a.m.
ESU is selected for the NCAA Tournament for the ninth time, and the sixth at the DII level. The Warriors are pursuing their second national title in three years after winning the first in program history in 2015.
ESU is in the national field for the third straight year and fifth time in the last nine years (2009, 2010, 2015, 2016, 2017). The Warriors fell to Shippensburg, 2-1, in the first round last year.
ESU was national runner-up in 2001, and previously made the DIII Tournament in 1987, 1988 and 1990.
