EAST STROUDSBURG - Senior guard Imani Brown had 17 points, nine rebounds, four assists and four steals and East Stroudsburg University held Gannon to 2-for-17 in the fourth quarter as the Warriors pulled out a 54-49 win vs. Gannon in PSAC women's basketball on Saturday afternoon at Koehler Fieldhouse.

Freshman forward Marlene Bassett had a season-high 12 points with five rebounds, sophomore guard Sadie Cresswell scored eight of her 11 points in a late run in the first half and sophomore guard Jordan Hertz had four points, a career-high nine rebounds, five assists and four steals for the Warriors.

ESU (6-3, 4-1) leads the PSAC East by two games entering finals week.

Gannon (5-5, 3-2) shot 28.3 percent (17-for-60) from the field, including 7-for-29 from the three-point line, and committed 19 turnovers.

The Warriors led for the final 22 minutes, closing the first half on a 14-2 run with Gannon scoring at the buzzer to pull within 32-25. Cresswell scored ESU's final eight points in the stretch and the Warriors outscored Gannon 20-9 in the pivotal second quarter.

ESU entered the fourth quarter with a 43-41 lead after Gannon trimmed a nine-point deficit to two late in the third.

The Warriors held a 11-8 advantage in the final 10 minutes - getting buckets from junior guards Noelle Powell and Ann McKnight to stay in front, and two free throws by Bassett for a 49-43 lead with 4:32 remaining.

After a three-minute scoreless stretch, Brown had a steal and layup to put ESU ahead 51-43 with 1:18 left.

Gannon's first field goal of the fourth quarter was a three-pointer by Haley Tewes with 27 seconds remaining, pulling the Golden Knights within five.

Hertz made two free throws, Gannon's Sydney Mitchell hit a three to make it 53-49 with 10 seconds left, and Brown was 1-for-2 at the line with five seconds left to set the final margin.

Nicole LaCava had 16 points and 10 rebounds, Tewes had 11 points and six boards and Chelsea Rourke posted 10 points and six rebounds but also had six of Gannon's 19 turnovers.

Maggie Mitchell, Gannon's top scorer (18.3 ppg) who had 29 points in GU's 83-71 win last year, had five points on 2-for-13 shooting.

ESU posted its first win over Gannon since 1995, with the Golden Knights winning the first seven meetings since joining the PSAC in 2008-09.

Brown, a returning first team All-PSAC East selection averaging 21.1 points and 8.1 rebounds per game, led ESU in scoring for the fifth straight game and seventh time in nine games this winter. She was one rebound short of her fourth double-double of the season and the eighth of her career.

The Warriors have a three-week break before hosting Mansfield on Saturday, December 30 at 1 p.m. at Koehler Fieldhouse.
