ESU Track & Field Continues Push Towards PSAC Meet at Fast Track National Invite

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – Eight new program top 10 marks, including a pair in the women's 800m, led East Stroudsburg University at the Fast Track National Invitational on Friday night.

The Warriors also had six new PSAC qualifiers in their second-to-last meet prior to this year's conference meet, while 15 others bettered their previous PSAC qualifying marks.

Seniors Lauren Toth and Erin Brady led the way in the 800m. Toth crossed the line in 2:19.42, matching junior Kaylyn West for the No. 5 time in program history, while Brady's time of 2:19.80 is No. 7 in the record books.

Also on the women's side, sophomore Aspen Gaita booked her spot in the PSAC meet in the 200m after completing the race in 25.81, a mark which ranks her seventh in program history. Freshman Tiana Webster competed in the event as well, lowering her PSAC time after crossing in 26.20.

Other new PSAC efforts for the women included sophomore Leiana Dean in the 400m (1:00.79), freshman Rachel Eidson in the mile (5:21.22) and junior Samantha Young in the 3000m (10:42.22). West also ran in the 3000m, posting a new season-best (10:26.28) which was over 19 seconds quicker than her previous top time.

All three ESU men taking part in the 800m lowered their PSAC qualifying marks, led by sophomore Khai Samuels (1:55.32), who entered the record books at No. 4 all-time. Sophomore Jared Glosser (1:58.16) and freshman Mike Sheptuk (1:58.50) added season bests in the event.

Sophomore Akeim Thomas had a big night for the Warriors in the sprints. His time of 7.04 in the 60m dash was a new PSAC mark and placed him sixth all-time, and he is now No. 8 in program history in the 200m after registering a new PR of 22.41.

Sophomore Pat Monahan posted a 7.03 in the 60m and a season-best 22.78 in the 200m, while junior Ernest Pendleton ran a season-best 7.18 in the 60m.

Senior Steve Morgan and junior Christian Castro registered their usual strong performances in the 60m hurdles. Both were among the top eight in the preliminaries to qualify for the final, where Morgan took third with an NCAA DII provisional time of 8.19 and Castro finished seventh with a time of 8.39.

The final new PSAC qualifier was freshman Andrew Schumacher in the 400m (50.64), and senior Alec Lederer (15:13.75) took over 20 seconds off his previous season-best in the 5000m. In the field, senior La Treil Ridgeway (45-9 3/4) and freshman Austin Horner (44-11 3/4) bettered their season-highs in the triple jump, while freshman Darnell Randall (6-6 1/4) posted a new top clearance in the high jump for a second-consecutive week.

Both the men's and women's 4x400m relay teams recorded top 10 program times. The men (3:21.86) took second in their race and placed eighth all-time. The women (3:56.82) placed fourth with a mark that is No. 6 in program history.

ESU will have one more meet before the conference championship, with the Warriors traveling to Kutztown next Saturday to take part in the Maroon & Gold Invitational.
