Day 1 Recap
YORK, Pa. – East Stroudsburg University had four more swimmers qualify for finals at Day 2 of the PSAC Championships on Friday, as the Warriors added 121 points to their overall team total.
Junior
Kate Zimmerman had the highest individual finish on the day for ESU. Zimmerman qualified for the 'B' final in the 400 individual medley with a season-best time of 4:42.53 in the morning preliminary session, and she clocked in at 4:44.08 at night to take 16th place in the event.
Freshman
Olivia Lukshides just missed out on the 'B' final in the 200 freestyle, placing 17th in the prelims with a time of 1:57.79. She lowered that mark at night down to a PR of 1:56.01 which ranks No. 2 in program history, only 0.12 behind
Ashleigh Podhayny's school record of 1:55.89 set last season. Lukshides won the 'C' final to earn a 17th place finish, though her time was actually the 10th fastest of the evening, above one swimmer in the 'A' final and six in the 'B' race.
The Warriors added 13 more individual points in the 100 butterfly. Juniors
Annie Fagan and
Allison Cardow were 19th and 20th, respectively, in the prelims, and each moved up one spot in the evening 'C' final. Fagan took 18th with a season-best mark of 59.50, and Cardow matched her PR of 59.55 (a time which is No. 4 in ESU history) to place 19th.
The Warriors began the evening session with an eighth place finish in the 200 free relay. Senior
Kelly Buyaskas, freshman
Dani Zimmerman, senior
Victoria Gurdak and Fagan completed the race in a season-best time of 1:39.23. Buyaskas' opening split of 25.00 was a new 50 free PR, and it places her one-hundredth of a second out of ESU's all-time top 10 list in the event.
Buyaskas also had a PR in the 100 fly during the morning session, as she registered a time of 1:02.68. Gurdak (2:00.57) and junior
Colleen Dwyer (2:01.42) added personal bests in the 200 free prelims.
The Warriors ended the night with an eighth place showing in the 400 medley relay. Dwyer,
Kate Zimmerman, Cardow and Lukshides finished the race in 3:58.85. Dwyer completed the 100 backstroke leg in 58.88, No. 2 all-time at ESU and 0.20 off Podhayny's school record of 58.68.
With 211 points, ESU is now only three points back of California for eighth place in the team standings. The Warriors are 75 points ahead of 10th place Millersville.
Day 3 of the championships begins at 10 a.m. on Saturday, with morning prelim races in the 500 free, 100 back, 100 breast and 200 fly.
