MELBOURNE, Fla. – Junior Mary Wallick tossed seven strong innings, while Madison Vicendese, Danielle Wissinger and Rae Holden had RBIs at the plate as East Stroudsburg University topped Stonehill by a 5-2 margin on Saturday morning for its first victory of the season.

Wallick allowed eight hits in a complete game performance to earn her first collegiate win in the circle. The Warriors (1-2) scored in each of their final three trips to the plate, highlighted by a three-run fifth inning, to overcome an early 2-0 deficit.

The Skyhawks (0-2) scored their two runs in the first inning on RBI doubles by Lianna Jordan and Erin Brayden, but they were shut down by Wallick for the remainder of the contest. Wallick stranded a pair of runners in the third, fourth and seventh innings and induced double plays in the fifth and sixth frames.

ESU had its first chance to score in the third after a single by Madison Oren and a walk by Vicendese put two runners on with one out, but Stonehill starter Michelle Carbone retired the next two batters to work out of trouble.

The Warriors broke through with their first run in the fourth. With runners on second and third, Holden singled down the right field line to plate Wissinger, who led off the frame without a leadoff single. Heather Visco also tried to score on the play, but she was ruled out on a close play at the plate.

ESU added three more runs to pull ahead in the fifth. Two scored on a Skyhawk error during a bunt single by Kaylee Hazewski, and Wissinger drove in Wallick with a single after the junior had tripled to deep center. Vicendese plated Oren with an RBI bunt single for the final Warrior run with two outs in the sixth.

Vicendese and Wissinger each finished 2 for 3 at the plate, with Vicendese reaching base in three of her four trips to the plate.

Stonehill is coming off a 23-17 record last season, including a 19-8 mark in the Northeast 10 portion of its schedule.

The Warriors are back in action at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, taking on No. 4 Armstrong State in its second matchup against nationally-ranked competition this weekend.
