KUTZTOWN, Pa. – Sophomore
Aspen Gaita lowered her school record in the 55-meter hurdles, and three other East Stroudsburg University performers posted top 10 program marks at the Kutztown Last Chance Meet on Saturday.
Sophomore
Pat Monahan, freshman
Me'Saj Closs and freshman
Alexis Schuldes joined Gaita in the ESU record books at the track & field program's final tune-up prior to the PSAC Indoor Championships next weekend at Edinboro next weekend.
Gaita clocked in at 8.15 in the 55m hurdle preliminary round, and she lowered that mark to 7.99 to cruise to a first place finish in the final. The Stroudsburg native was 0.09 under her previous ESU and Kutztown facility record of 8.08 set in the team's first meet at KU on Jan. 13. The 7.99 time converts to a 60m hurdle mark of 8.59 which would match her season best at that distance.
In the field, Gaita took first place in the high jump with an NCAA Division II provisional clearance of 5-5 1/4, finishing just under her top season effort of 5-6 1/2.
Monahan posted a prelim time of 6.58 in the 55m dash, and he beat out the field in the final with a PR of 6.50 which vaults him up to No. 4 on ESU's all-time list. Monahan also took first place in a field of 14 runners after completing the 200m dash in 23.14.
Closs and Schuldes each entered Saturday ranked No. 9 all-time in the weight throw and shot put, respectively, and both improved on their PRs in those disciplines this afternoon. Closs took fifth place in the weight throw with a top toss of 46-0 1/2, while Schuldes was second out of 21 throwers with a top distance of 39-9 3/4 in the shot put. Freshman
Olivia Onal added a season-best PSAC qualifying time in the weight throw (44-2 1/2).
Senior
Steve Morgan achieved a new season-best in the 55m hurdles on the men's side. Morgan (7.60) and junior
Christian Castro (7.82) finished 1-2 in the final, with Morgan finishing 0.01 off his PR in the event which ranks No. 2 all-time. His time converts to an NCAA DII provisional mark of 8.18 for the 60m hurdles.
The Warriors had a total of 18 PSAC qualifying efforts on the day, with other highlights including new season bests for freshman
Noah Lockwood in the shot put (47-9 3/4), sophomore
Shante Dorin in the 400m (1:00.84), senior
Kelley Anne Stuetz in the 55m hurdles (8.89) and freshman
Tiana Webster in the 55m dash (7.39).
