EAST STROUDSBURG - Sophomore attack Brooke Fritz had four goals and three assists and junior midfielder Chessie Rahmer added four goals and one assist, leading East Stroudsburg University to a 20-11 win over Chestnut Hill in non-conference women's lacrosse in the Warriors' 2017 season opener on Tuesday afternoon at Whitenight Field.

Senior midfielder Emily Fitzsimmons scored three goals and freshman midfielder Hana Cicerelle had three goals and an assist in her first career game for ESU. Sophomore attack TJ Jefferis contributed two goals and three assists, and junior midfielder Alicia Stratten scored two goals to give ESU six multiple-goal scorers.

Julia Reinert and Lea Sanders both scored four goals and Spencer Fitzgerald had three for Chestnut Hill (0-2), which lost its season opener by a goal vs. Kuztown last weekend.

ESU held a 55-22 advantage in shots - 26-7 in the first half and 29-15 in the second half.

The Warriors led 8-4 at intermission before a 12-goal second half. ESU scored six of the final seven goals of the first half after trailing 3-2 just over 11 minutes into the contest.

Katie Joe Lang made 20 saves and played the entire game in goal for Chestnut Hill. Freshman Michelle Dyck made six saves in her debut for ESU, playing all but the final 1:37 in net.

Fritz scored twice in each half, while Rahmer scored all four of her goals in the second half, including ESU's first three in a span of 4:57 after the break. Rahmer's third goal was the 50th of her career.

Senior attack Lauren Green and sophomore midfielder Emma Rufolo had a goal and an assist for ESU. A pair of freshmen, Cassidy McKenna and Juliane Fitzsimmons, added assists.

ESU had a commanding 24-8 advantage in draw controls, led by Rahmer (7) and Emily Fitzsimmons (6). Rahmer also had team-highs with three caused turnovers and seven ground balls.

ESU, which was ranked No. 19 in the IWLCA Division II preseason poll before dropping out in the first poll of the season, set a school record with 12 wins last season.

The Warriors returned five starters while replacing several key players, including first team All-PSAC selections Lauren Nunes (attack), Caitlyn O'Connell (defender) and Jessica Maxwell (goalkeeper). Nunes had an ESU record 96 points last season and was the DII statistical champion in assists per game (3.59).

ESU hosts St. Thomas Aquinas in its next contest next Wednesday (March 8) at Whitenight Field.
