Box Score

SALEM, Va. – Kaitlyn Beers hit a go-ahead three-run home run in the bottom of the fifth inning, as IUP overcame an early 8-2 deficit to top East Stroudsburg University by a 10-8 final on Saturday morning.

Freshman Rachel Grabowski went 2 for 4 with three RBIs in her first collegiate start to lead the Warriors (2-7) offensively, while senior Danielle Wissinger and junior Mary Wallick added two RBIs apiece. Freshman Kaylee Hazewski had three of ESU's nine stolen bases, giving her 12 steals in 13 attempts through the season's first nine contests.

The first eight Warriors reached base to begin the game, with Wissinger, Wallick and Grabowski all driving in runs to give ESU a 5-0 advantage.

After the Crimson Hawks (2-1) got two runs back with solo tallies in the first and third innings, the Warriors added three more runs in the top of the fourth. A Hazewski walk and a single by sophomore Madison Vicendese put two on with nobody out, and a double steal by Hazewski and pinch-runner Kendra Barlotta put a pair in scoring position.

Junior Heather Visco made it 6-2 with an RBI single, and two more runs crossed the plate on a sacrifice fly by Wallick and a two-out double by Grabowski.

A two-run double by Lauren Goetz highlighted a four-run effort by IUP in the bottom-half of the inning, and the Crimson Hawks took their first lead on Beers' long ball with one out in the fifth.

Goetz reached base in all four of her trips to the plate, finishing 3 for 3 with a HBP. She scored three runs while also driving in three. The last of those three RBIs came on a solo homer in the sixth off freshman Lily Moresco (0-1) to give IUP an insurance run.

Moresco allowed three runs over an inning of work, while senior Rachael Liguori surrendered seven runs over five innings. Megan Risinger picked the win in a complete game effort for the Crimson Hawks despite giving up eight earned runs on nine ESU hits.

Vicendese, Visco, Wallick, Grabowski and junior Katherine Liedberg added steals for the Warriors, who are now up to 36 stolen bases (on 39 attempts) on the year.

The Warriors conclude their two-day tournament in Salem, Va., with Saturday afternoon tilts against Winston-Salem (2 p.m.) and Glenville State (4 p.m.).
