SALEM, Va. – East Stroudsburg University concluded its weekend in Salem, Va., with a pair of defeats to Chowan on Sunday afternoon.

The Hawks (15-13) took Game 1 by an 8-0 final, with all eight runs scored in the final two innings, and they earned a 6-4 victory to cap off the sweep in Game 2.

A three-run double by senior Rae Holden midway through the second game highlighted the offensive effort for the Warriors (4-9) on the day. ESU now has 10 days off before traveling to Goldey-Beacom for a doubleheader on Wednesday, March 22 which is scheduled to begin at 2:30 p.m.

Game 1: Chowan 8, ESU 0

Junior RHP Mary Wallick and Chowan's Kayla Robins traded zero's in the circle through the first five innings. Wallick allowed only two runners to reach second base during that span, and she set the side down in order in the third.

ESU's best chance to break the deadlock came in the fourth inning. Junior Heather Visco reached on an error to begin the frame. She stole second and made it to third on a single by senior Danielle Wissinger. Robins, though, recovered to retire the next three batters and preserve the shutout.

Chowan broke through on a two-out three-run homer by Brittany Parson in the sixth inning, and the Hawks added five more runs with two outs in the seventh. Parson finished the contest 3 for 4 with five RBIs at the plate.

Robins posted a dominant pitching performance to secure her 11th victory of the season. She struck out 14 over her seven innings of work, allowing only three singles and a walk.

Game 2: Chowan 6, ESU 4

The Hawks held a 1-0 lead through the opening three innings, opening the scoring on an RBI triple by Kris Neal in the second.

ESU manufactured its first run of the day in the top of the fourth to knot up the score. Sophomore Kendra Barlotta came on to pinch-run for Wissinger after a leadoff single, and she promptly stole second and third base in succession. Wallick then brought her in with a run-scoring single.

A passed ball, an RBI single and a fielder's choice RBI plated three runs for Chowan in the bottom-half of the fourth, but the Warriors quickly tied the game back up in the fifth. ESU loaded the bases on singles by sophomore Madison Vicendese, Visco and Wallick, and Holden came through with a clutch one-out bases clearing double to make it 4-4.

The Hawks loaded the bases with no one out in the bottom of the fifth, and a pair of RBI groundouts gave them the lead for good. The Warriors were unable to score after putting two runners on with two outs in the sixth, and Robins worked a 1-2-3 seventh to finish off her second victory of the day.

Wallick went 2 for 3 with a walk in Game 2, while freshman Kaylee Hazewski added two hits and her team-leading 16th stolen base of the season (on 18 attempts). She now has four multiple hit games in 2017, hitting .381 overall from the leadoff position. Barlotta, meanwhile, is now a perfect 11 for 11 in steals on the year after adding three more thefts on Sunday.

Senior LHP Rachael Liguori (2-3) went the distance in the circle for ESU, giving up seven hits and four walks over six innings.
