EAST STROUDSBURG - Senior attack
Lauren Green scored four goals and sophomore attack
Brooke Fritz added three as East Stroudsburg University built a 9-2 halftime lead in a 12-9 victory over Bloomsburg in the Warriors' PSAC women's lacrosse opener on Wednesday afternoon at Whitenight Field.
ESU (5-0, 1-0) also had strong games from senior midfielder
Emily Fitzsimmons, who had two goals and one assist, and junior midfielder
Chessie Rahmer, who had one goal, two assists and team-highs with three caused turnovers, seven ground balls and seven draw controls.
Freshman goalkeeper
Tatyana Petteway made 11 saves for the Warriors.
Brigid Kyne and Hannah Jaskuta had three goals each for Bloomsburg (4-2, 1-1), which posted a 7-3 advantage in the second half but never got closer than three goals over the final 55 minutes of the contest.
Green and Fritz both scored three goals in the first half as the Warriors led 8-1 20 minutes into the game and 9-2 at intermission.
Fitzsimmons scored ESU's final goal of the half before Bloomsburg cut into the deficit with two goals early in the second half.
Freshman midfielder
Rylie Toomey (1 goal, 1 assist) and Fitzsimmons scored to regain ESU's seven-goal lead (11-4) with just over 10 minutes remaining.
Bloomsburg scored five of the final six goals, but Green's fourth goal, with 7:16 remaining, put the Warriors ahead 12-6 as they held off the Huskies down the stretch.
Sophomore midfielder
Emma Rufolo also had a goal and an assist for ESU.
The Warriors held a 29-22 advantage in shots, including 20-8 in a dominant first half. ESU also posted a 15-8 margin in draw controls, led by seven by Rahmer and four by Fitzsimmons.
Angela DiPasquale made nine saves in goal for Bloomsburg.
ESU hosts No. 4 LIU Post, its first nationally-ranked opponent of the season, in a non-conference game on Friday at 3 p.m. at Whitenight Field. LIU Post (3-1) has a 7 p.m. road game at Molloy on Wednesday night before traveling to play the Warriors on Friday.
