EASTON, Pa. – In its first matchup against a Division I opponent since 2002, East Stroudsburg University suffered a 7-0 setback at Lafayette on Thursday afternoon. With the meeting at Lafayette, the match was played under Division I rules, with the three doubles contests only counting as one point towards the final results.
The Leopards (6-8) earned that point with victories in all three doubles matchups. Seniors
Amber Jadus and
Kayla Loar forced a tiebreaker at the No. 1 position before ultimately falling 7-6 (7-5) to Katie Hill and Lauren Tracy.
ESU's lone set victory in singles came at No. 4, where junior
Elizabeth Bartoli was outlasted 6-3, 2-6, 1-0 (10-6) in a super tiebreaker by Tracy.
Thursday marked the first contest against a DI foe since Western Kentucky topped the Warriors by an 8-1 final in Hilton Head, S.C., back in 2002. Prior to that, ESU hadn't faced a DI team since a matchup against Villanova in 1988.
The Warriors (2-6) return to PSAC competition on Wednesday afternoon, traveling to Bloomsburg for a match scheduled to get underway at 4 p.m.
