EAST STROUDSBURG – Sophomore Aspen Gaita and freshman Noah Lockwood both won a pair of events, with Gaita lowering her own school record in the 100-meter hurdles, as the East Stroudsburg University men's and women's track & field teams each took first place in Saturday's home tri-meet against Bloomsburg and Kutztown.

The men won 8 of 18 contested events, while the women were victorious in a total of six competitions. The two teams also combined to post eight new PSAC qualifying marks on the afternoon.

Gaita completed the 100m hurdles in 14.33, finishing over eight-tenths of a second ahead of Kutztown's Joanne Mason (15.14) in second place. She was 0.13 under her previous record time established last weekend at Lafayette, and she was only 0.03 above the NCAA Division II provisional standard in the event. Gaita would add a first-place finish in the long jump, posting a PSAC qualifying distance of 17-4.

Lockwood bested the field in both the shot put (46-10 1/4) and the discus (144-10) to lead the men's squad in the throws. Other first place showings in the field included senior Sean Hagerty (21-9, season-best) in the long jump and freshman Darnell Randall (6-2 3/4, season-best) in the high jump.

On the track, the Warriors were paced by four strong efforts in the 110m hurdles. Senior Steve Morgan crossed the line first in an NCAA DII provisional time of 14.47 which is just under his season-best mark of 14.44 set at Charlotte on March 18.

He was followed by a trio of ESU runners who did manage season-bests. Junior Christian Castro (14.91) and sophomore Mike Matrisciano (15.22) lowered their previous PSAC qualifying times, while freshman Anthony Del Popolo (15.79) booked his spot at the conference meet.

Sophomore Pat Monahan stood out in the sprint events for the men. He ran a PR of 10.77 in the 100m which ranks him No. 7 in program history, and he registered a PSAC qualifying time of 22.20 in the 200m. Junior Ernest Pendleton (11.01) and Castro (22.40) added conference qualifying efforts in the 100m and 200m, respectively.

Freshman Andrew Schumacher took first out of six runners in the 400m hurdles with a PR of 55.94, while Matrisciano followed in third with a PSAC qualifying time of 56.76. The final individual first place result for the men came from freshman Mike Sheptuk (4:17.65) in the 1500m. The 4x100m relay foursome of freshman Sam Avalos, Pendleton, Morgan and Monahan added a first-place effort to begin the day after completing the race in 42.80.

The women's 4x100m squad of sophomore Marissa Flim, freshman Tiana Webster, sophomore Leiana Dean and Gaita also crossed the line first, registering a time of 48.71. Flim would later post a season-best effort of 12.48 in the 100m to beat out a field of six competitors.

Seniors Erin Brady (2:20.32) and Kelley Anne Stuetz (1:08.39) had the final first-place finishes for the Warrior women in the 800m and 400m hurdles, respectively. Other new PSAC qualifying times included junior Kaylyn West (4:48.15) in the 1500m and Gaita (25.51) in the 200m.

The ESU women finished the day with 151 points, well ahead of Bloomsburg (112.5) in second and Kutztown (96.5) in third. The men earned 153.5 points to edge out Kutztown (142) in second place, while Bloomsburg followed with 52.5 points.

The Warriors are back in action next Saturday, traveling to Moravian to take part in the Coach P Invitational.
