EAST STROUDSBURG – Junior
Elizabeth Bartoli and freshman
Marina Zardet each won in singles and doubles, earning three of East Stroudsburg University's six points in a 6-3 PSAC triumph over Millersville at Wolbers Courts on Tuesday afternoon.
The Warriors (3-8, 1-3 PSAC) snapped a four-match losing streak to claim their first conference victory of the season. ESU defeated Millersville (2-12, 1-2 PSAC) for the first time since a 5-4 win on April 2, 2011.
The home side, playing its first match of the season on-campus, held a 2-1 advantage after doubles. Bartoli and Zardet teamed up for an 8-4 win over Kimberly Theophile and Kelley Hershey at No. 2, while junior
Devin Presby and freshman
Aubrianna Stetina added an identical 8-4 victory over Jessica Soullaird and Molly Kulp at No. 3. Presby and Stetina have now won five matches as a team this season, the most for any ESU tandem.
Zardet was the first victorious Warrior in singles, cruising past Theophile by a 6-0, 6-4 margin at No. 3. The Marauders won the next two matches at No. 1 and No. 2 to even up the dual at 3-3.
Senior
Kayla Loar earned the fourth point with a dominant 6-0, 6-2 win over Hershey at No. 5, and Bartoli clinched the match at No. 4 after rallying for a 5-7, 6-2, 6-2 victory over Haley Nauman.
Sophomore
Lauren Morrissey also rallied from a set down, besting Soullaird by a 2-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-7) final at No. 6.
ESU will be back at Stroudsburg HS for its final home dual of the season, a 12 p.m. contest against Kutztown on Saturday afternoon.
