SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – A late rally in the opener and an early offensive outburst in Game 2 lifted Shippensburg to a doubleheader sweep over East Stroudsburg University on Friday afternoon.

The Raiders (21-16, 4-4 PSAC) scored seven runs in the sixth inning during an 8-2 victory in Game 1, and they completed the sweep with a 6-4 triumph in the nightcap, scoring five of their six runs in the first two innings.

Junior Heather Visco hit a two-run double with two outs in the seventh inning of Game 2 for the Warriors (10-19, 1-7 PSAC), putting the go-ahead runner at the plate with runners on second and third, but Shippensburg's Nicole Smith induced a groundout to end the game.

Visco and sophomore Samantha Pickar each had two hits in the second contest, while redshirt senior Danielle Dungee, who was coming off a three-hit, two-home run performance in Game 1 of Tuesday's doubleheader at Bloomfield, added two more hits in a 2 for 3 effort at the plate in today's opener.

ESU is right back in action on Saturday afternoon, hosting Millersville at Zimbar Field in a doubleheader scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.

Game 1: Shippensburg 8, ESU 2

After falling behind on an unearned run in the bottom of the first, the Warriors rallied in the middle innings to grab a 2-1 lead. The first of their two runs was also unearned, as junior Mary Wallick reached on a throwing error to begin the fourth. Three batters later, freshman Rachel Grabowski came through with a two-out RBI double to right field to level up the score.

ESU pulled ahead in the following inning. The bottom of the lineup began the rally, as junior Madison Oren was hit by a pitch and Pickar reached on a bunt single. Shippensburg starter Taryn Wilson struck out the next two batters, but Wallick delivered with an RBI single to center to five the Warriors the advantage.

The Raiders scored six of their seven runs in the decisive bottom of the sixth inning with two outs. Tara Bicko had the go-ahead hit on a two-run double to left, and Meghan Klee added a two-run double of her own three batters later.

Wilson improved to 6-3 for Shippensburg after striking out nine ESU batters over seven innings for the home side.

Game 2: Shippensburg 6, ESU 4

The Raiders continued to do damage with two outs in Game 2, as each of their five runs in the opening two innings came with two outs in the frame. Meghan Klee had RBI hits in both innings, with a run-scoring single in the first and a two-run double in the second.

ESU did not have a baserunner in the first four innings, but the bats came to life beginning in the fifth. After the first two batters were retired, Dungee broke up the perfect game with a four-pitch walk, and senior LHP Rachael Liguori followed with a single to center. Two batters later, Pickar put the Warriors on the scoreboard on an RBI single through the left side.

Both teams added a run in the sixth, with sophomore Madison Vicendese delivering an RBI single for the visitors and Shippensburg tallying an unearned run on a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the frame to make the score 6-2.

The Warriors loaded the bases with one out in the seventh, but Visco's two-run double was sandwiched between a strikeout and a groundout which ended the contest.

Liguori allowed six runs (five earned) over six innings in the circle for ESU, while Smith (5-4) surrendered four runs (two earned) over seven innings for the Raiders.

Wallick went 0 for 4 at the plate in Game 2, ending her career-best hitting streak at 19 games.
